Mommy, mommy! Look at that pretty silver ring." said a little girl, who looked no older than 4. The little girl's mother turned around to look at the silver ring that her daughter was pointing at. "Excuse me Sir." she said to the store clerk. "Ah, bonjour Mme. Anything I can help you with?" the store clerk asked.
"Yes, I was wondering if I may that silver ring in the upper left hand corner." She asked politely. The clerk took out an open wooden jewelry box, and set it down on the glass counter top. "This one?" he asked pointing at the wrong ring. "No the one above." The woman told him. The clerk carefully took the ring out of the box and gave it to the woman.
"You have very fine taste, very fine taste indeed." The clerk complimented. "Thank you, my daughter picked it." She replied. "Oh mon Dieu! That little girl is your daughter! I thought she was your sister!" the clerk exclaimed. 'The things people say to make money.' The woman thought.
The ring was very well detailed. It was silver with 4 diamonds (1 in the front, back and sides). In-between diamonds were strange, yet beautiful markings.
The woman knew that the ring was 1 thousand ₤ at least. The mother bent down to her daughter's height. "Honey, you know that if I buy the pretty ring that you won't get the train right?" she asked her daughter. Her daughter smiled and nodded. "Do you still want the ring?" she asked. "Yes mommy."
"I'll take this ring and a chain to go with it." She told the clerk. "Oui Mme, and which chain did you want?" the clerk asked happy that he made a sale. The woman looked through the glass at a sliver twisted chain that would go perfectly with the ring. "That one please." She said. The clerk got the chain and gave it to the lady and told her the total cost. The woman paid for the ring and chain then put the ring on the chain and the chain on her daughter's neck.
"Thank-you." She said to the clerk. She turned to her daughter. "Maybe we'll get the train next month, Violet." She said and smiled to her happy daughter. She took her daughter's hand and left then left the store.
