AN:I so have not abondoned this story. I'm still working on it and LE is making sure that I finiah it. I think the writer's block for it may have finally broken. It didn't help that I hardly had access to the computer during the summer and I think that's what really started the writer's block. I didn't have any way of writing except for on paper and I couldn't remember where I was in the story enough to write the next part. Anyways, I know this chap. is short, but LE thought I should leave it the way it is so I will. I'll try my best to make the next chap longer and not have you guys wait forever to read the next part.

Here's a quick re-cap incase you've forgotten what's happening. Daniel's a host to Apophis, he has Sha'uri and the rest of SG-1. The Tok'ra are trying to get SG-1 and Daniel out, so on and so on. I think that should help. Anyways, enjoy!

CHAPTER TWELVE - SHADOWS

Mesi entered the main hall where Apophis stood. The Gould was yet again staring out the window at the world outside and Mesi wondered why. She had noticed that since Apophis had taken Dr. Jackson as his host that he had been staring out into the world often. She wondered if the good doctor had anything to do with that.

"You called, My Lord?" she asked as she came to stand before him.

Apophis turned towards her, his green robes swirling around him as he moved.

"Yes," he answered, his deep voice echoing throughout the hall, "It's come to my attention that there may be a traitor in my midst. There are only a few people that I can trust," he stepped towards her.

She shivered slightly and moved her hazel eyes to stare at the ground, knowing that if she didn't she may anger him.

Apophis circled her and she could feel his eyes upon her. "I need you to try to track this traitor down and bring them before me."

She nodded. "Yes, My Lord. Is that all?"

Apophis moved back towards the window. "No. Have Jarha prepare the fleet to leave for Simarka. I've given Jarha the coordinates. Then have Colonel O'Neill brought before me."

She nodded. "Very well, My Lord." With that, she left.

Apophis kept his gaze fixed on Mesi's reflection as she hurried out of the room. He found her fear of him extremely amusing, though he suspected that she was starting to see through the façade that he had created.

Daniel Jackson was a much harder host to handle then any of the ones Apophis had taken before him. It would take some time before he could break through Daniel's spirit but he felt that it wouldn't take long. Now that he had Sha'uri, Daniel would have no choice but to give up his struggle or cause his wife more pain.

Apophis' eyes glowed as he caught something moving behind him.

"What do you plan to do, Sha'uri?" he smiled using Daniel's voice once again as he turned to face her, "Knock me out while my back is turned. You know better than that."

Sha'uri stood defiantly before him, wearing beautiful blue silk robes. The top she wore below them came down just below her bust, exposing the lovely skin of her belly. Apophis's eyes feasted upon her as he stepped closer.

Her head was held high as she watched him.

"I would not dream of such a thing," she answered as Apophis began to circle her.

He chuckled deeply. "Yes, you would. I have seen your dreams my love. Seen what your dreams…and nightmares hold. I know exactly what you could and would do to save your Daniel."

She stared ahead as he walked behind her. "No," she said turning to face him. "I do not think you do."

Apophis just stared at her for a moment before moving forward to pull her close. She let him and Apophis smiled. She had finally learned that resisting would only hurt Daniel.

He raised a hand to her face, pushing strands of her hair away, "Tomorrow," he began, his face so close to hers that she could feel his breath, "Our people will once again see their Queen."

Sha'uri made no comment, the last time she had spoken against Ammo'net he had started to taunt her about Daniel's past. She did not wish to hear anymore of it, not from him. So she just continued to stare at him, trying hard to resist the temptation to pull away.

"They'll love you," he whispered to her, "Worship you. What could possibly be a better fate then that?"

He leaned forward and grasped her lips with his. She was still, though she so badly wanted to pull away. He forced his tongue inside of her mouth and she let him take what he wanted. She couldn't bear the thought of Daniel getting hurt again, not when he was trying to conserve his strength.

Apophis pulled back and smiled, "Stay and wait, my love. For you are going to see that I control not only you and Daniel, but his friends as well."

Sha'uri shivered as he laughed. She knew what he was going to do. He was going to torture O'Neill and the others soon. She didn't want to see it, but knew that she had to listen to Apophis, at least for now. It was a very good thing that she had grown up living under the rule of Ra otherwise she might never have been able to fool Apophis into thinking that she was obediently obeying him. She was just biding her time, waiting for a chance to contact either the SGC or its allies. She knew she would have to act soon; otherwise more lives were going to be at stake.

"Mesi, report?" Jacob called over the comm. He was in the Tel'tac orbiting a moon not far from the planet that Apophis's base was currently on. It had taken some doing to get a spy within Apophis court, but the Tok'ra had finally succeeded which meant they were now able to find out what was going on with SG-1.

He was worried, but more so then he usually was if SG-1 was in trouble and the Tok'ra were called in. SG-1 has been known to get themselves out of a lot of tight spaces in the last several years, but never one like this. He knew Jack; the Colonel who never left anyone behind, so he knew that there was no way Jack was leaving that planet without Daniel. He only hoped that by the end of all this there would still be something left of Daniel to be saved.

"I'm here, Jacob," came the response after a few tense moments.

"What's your situation?" he asked.

"Stable, for the moment. Apophis suspects someone to be the spy, but he appointed me to lead the investigation into it, so that should buy me some time."

Jacob nodded though he knew Mesi couldn't see him, "What of SG-1?"

"They're locked up in a gravity cell for the time being. Apophis has summoned O'Neill, but I'm not sure what he plans to do. Most likely try to weed information out of him."

"That seems likely," he answered, "Sha'uri. What have you learn about her?"

"Apophis has her on a tight leash as of this morning. Apparently he's threatened her with hurting Daniel if she steps out of line so she's obeying him for the time being. How long that will last, I'm not sure."

She sounded exhausted. Jacob could understand. He wasn't doing so well himself. Ever since General Hammond had contacted the Tok'ra and explained what was happening, he hadn't slept much. He's spent most of his time either at the SGC helping organize things there, or out with the Tok'ra formulating a plan to retrieve SG-1 and save Daniel, if that was possible.

"And Daniel?" Jacob asked. He knew the answer, but he had to check. Daniel was a very strong willed individual. There was a chance that he would be able to fight Apophis in a way no other host had. Jacob couldn't think there had ever been someone as strong willed as Daniel ever becoming a host before. All hosts that he knew of had come from relatively primitive cultures with no real mental capabilities at all. Even Sha'uri, who was fairly intelligent, just didn't have the training to have been strong enough mentally to fight off a Gould.

"He's another matter," Mesi answered simply. There was a pause and Jacob grew impatient.

"What do you mean?"

"It's strange. Apophis seems totally in control, like he has a tight rein on Daniel and nothing can break that but it's just the look in his eyes. His eyes glow more often and we know that means he's either angry or is fighting for control. And it almost seems as if there's a shadow of Dr. Jackson in his gaze."

Jacob moved closer to the edge of his seat. "That's interesting. What else?"

"I don't know if it means anything but I find Apophis staring out into space a lot when he thinks he is alone. And when he is with Sha'uri, he doesn't treat her like he had when he had her the first time, before SG-1 was originally captured."

"He treats her more like Daniel did?" Jacob asked.

"Not exactly," she answered. "It's difficult to explain. He's…" The comm. went silent for a moment and Jacob knew better then to say anything. They couldn't risk Mesi begin discovered. They needed her. The information that she could give them might just save SG-1.

"Jacob, I've got to go," Mesi answered. "I'll explain everything later at the next check in."

"Be careful," Jacob warned before he closed the comm.

He sat back in his seat with a sigh. Things were becoming more complicated by the minute and if they didn't rescue SG-1 soon…well, Jacob didn't want to think about what could happen.

Daniel, I hope you can pull another one of those nine lives out of your hat cause we're coming up short on options here, Jacob thought sadly as he steered the ship away from the moon.

Jack was thrown violently to the floor. He bit back a curse as his knees slammed into the hard concrete floor. His hands were tied behind his back, so there was no way he could have broken his fall.

Fucking bastards, Jack thought sourly as he grimaced and moved into a more comfortable position.

A laugh unlike anything Jack had ever heard before pierced the relative silence of the room. It wasn't the laugh of a Gould, that much Jack knew. It sounded too human like for that.

No, Jack thought. That wasn't the sound of a Gould. That was the sound that Apophis was twisting Daniel's voice into making.

Jack looked up to see Apophis standing before him in front of a huge window. He had Daniel's arms crossed and was leaning back against the wall. It reminded Jack so much of the time Daniel had been addicted to the sarc. The arrogance rolling off of Apophis was exactly the same; the only difference was the fact that his eyes glowed.

Apophis smiled deeply. "Hey, Jack. Can I call you Jack?" Apophis asked, using Daniel's voice. A shiver went up Jack's spine, but years of military training meant he didn't show it.

Oh yeah. Sarc addiction all over again, he thought and wished that it really were just that simple. A Sarcophagus addiction they could handle and cure. Being a host was something that the people of Earth just hadn't figured out how to cure yet.

Jack didn't answer Apophis's question. He wasn't going to tell this Gould anything.

Apophis uncrossed his arms and moved closer to Jack, crouching down in front of him so that they were eye level. Jack was unnerved by how much Daniel's eyes had changed. They weren't the gentle blue he remembered. They were more like the ocean during a hurricane, a very large one.

Apophis sighed. "You don't look too good. Hope my Jaffa haven't been treating you too badly. You are my honoured guest after all."

"Swell. When's my massage coming? I know that I booked one," Jack snapped back. Why couldn't Apophis just talk to him like that fucking asshole normally would? No, he had to go and act like a mixture of himself and Daniel addicted to the sarc.

Apophis laughed. "Jack, Jack, Jack," he said, shaking his head with laughter. "I can see why Daniel values you as a friend. It's just a little sad to see that that friendship comes at a very high price nowadays."

Apophis stood and moved back towards the window, looking out into the dark night. The moon could just be made out from behind some clouds in the sky and its light was illuminating the forest that scattered the area outside the walls of the fortress, casting shadows across the ground.

"I need you to give me something, Jack. Something that I know you won't give willingly."

Jack kept his face straight. "If you're planning on asking for the codes to our Stargate, then you got another thing coming if you think I'm going to give them too you."

Apophis laughed again. "Oh, I know that you will not surrender those codes, Jack. I knew this even without Daniel's help."

"Oh really," Jack replied. "Then I hope Daniel also mentioned that I won't stop until I have your head on a pole."

"Don't you mean Daniel's head?" Apophis asked turning around again to face Jack, his green robes swirling around him.

"No," Jack answered. "I mean yours. Your little parasitical head on its own little post while Daniel is safely back on Earth with us and his wife."

Apophis smiled and looked down at the ground; a gesture that was so Daniel that Jack wasn't sure whether or not the person standing before him was Daniel or Apophis. The moment ended quickly as Apophis raised his head and turned to stare at something in the far left corner of the room; a corner that from the angle Jack was kneeling at couldn't see.

"Sha'uri," Apophis said, exactly the same way Daniel had called to her when Jack had gone back to Abydos to retrieve Daniel all those years ago. "Come here," he called, holding out his hand.

A few moments later, Sha'uri came into Jack's line of version. Her head was down as she walked and she moved to Apophis' side quietly, as though some unforeseen force was pulling her to him. She looked exactly like Ammo'net had the last time Jack had seen that bitch but was acting they way she had back when Jack had first met Sha'uri; a slave to her god.

Apophis pulled her close, wrapping an arm around her waist, locking her small frame to Daniel's larger one. He then turned to smile at Jack. "Daniel is safe exactly where he is," Apophis said tauntingly. "And if you want him to stay that way, then I suggest you co-operate with me."

Jack sneered. "Over my dead body."

Apophis chuckled slightly, playing with Sha'uri's hair. She had her eyes averted from both Apophis and Jack so Jack couldn't tell how she was. Her face was expressionless; nothing at all like the laughing face Jack had started to become use too. Her navy robes hung off her in all the right place and her hair was much more tamed then the last time Jack had seen her; in the cell.

"Jaffa," Apophis said suddenly and Jack was hauled to his feet. He stumbled slightly, his knees almost giving out on him, but he was able to maintain his balance.

"Kree!" Apophis snapped, gesturing towards a pillar behind Jack.

The Jaffa hauled Jack towards the pillar where a chain was hanging. The rope tying his hands together was quickly attached to the chain and Jack was left with his arms above his head, facing both Apophis and Sha'uri.

Apophis walked towards him then, bringing Sha'uri with him. His eyes glowed for a moment and he smiled deeply. "Now you will tell me what I want to know, or," he said, reaching over to pull a long staff like object out of an awaiting Jaffa's hands, "I use this on you and Daniel will get to feel your pain ten fold," he then stepped close enough to Jack so that he could whisper in his ear, "I'll even let you hear him scream."
