It's a perfect night to die...the moon is gone...his hair is black...the sword useless for the moment. I creep slowly over to his side, still cautious even in life's waning moments.
He snores lightly, exhausted from the day's fight. I smile bitterly for we had not fought just any other demon. We had fought her...she had finally come against us as an opponent. The battle lasted until the sun began its descent into the earth. Running...chasing...clawing...then...it happened...
Flashback
Shadows became longer but the sounds of battle echoed still...arrows flew from both sides of the meadow...then...all was silent. Cautiously, a small fox child could be seen crawling out of a log in the middle of the meadow. I sighed in relief and called out to him, "Shippo! It's alright...come on back ." Little did I know that she was waiting for this...before I could protect him...an arrow pierced Shippo's little body. He screamed in pain...I screamed in anguish...but he stood there...staring at his former lover...I screamed at him to do something...but he just stood there...War cries filled the air from the lips of my friends...but HE STOOD THERE AND DID NOTHING...
End of Flashback
I grasped the handle of his sword and edged away just far enough to pull the sword out fully. The blade glistened slightly in the fire's dying light. I grinned and quickly plunged the blade deep within my heart.
Floating...
Flying...
Then, laughing, I ascend to the heights of my freedom...
