Saying Goodbye.

Summary: Remus Lupin makes a short speech at Lily and James's funeral.

A/N: This is a short story I decided to write because I am very, very bored.

Remus Lupin stood up and walked slowly to the front. In his shabby black robes, pulling the Muggle microphone to his mouth, he proceeded to make his speech.

"I'm here today at the funeral of my best friends, Lily and James Potter," his voice shook. "They were more than that. They were my sister and brother, not by blood but by the love, faith and trust we had put in each other."

"I have known them since the time I was eleven years old, and we had all entered the magical and enthralling world of Hogwarts. We were innocent back then, the only real thing on our minds was to make the teachers' hair go as gray as possible." A small, sad smile appeared on Remus' face and the audience chuckled softly.

"But that changed as V-…He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named came into power. We went straight from those innocent, bright-eyed kids to teenagers who had seen the full extent of war. Even though we were still safe within Hogwarts walls, a dark sinister cloud was hanging over us all."

"Because there came a time where we had to leave the safety of Hogwarts. We weren't those bright-eyed kids or teenagers who had to grow up to fast. We were adults, and we had to make our own way, which would be hard enough without that dark sinister cloud."

"It was a dangerous time for all of us, as you would all know. We weren't in Hogwarts anymore. We were in the real world, where people were dying every day. But they say you'll never know how much you love someone until they're gone. And they're right. Because now that Lily and James are being laid to rest, I wish I could just spend two more minutes with them. They are brilliant people and it saddens me to be here, at their funeral because these are two people in the world who don't deserve to die."

"It's hard to be here today, and it's even harder to be saying goodbye to my two of my first real friends. Because if you think back to even a year ago, I couldn't imagine thinking that two of my best friends would be dead in year's time, even though it was likely."

"Because you don't realise how much you'd miss someone until they're gone. And then it's too late. Because we're here, at the funeral of Lily and James Potter because we're saying goodbye."

Remus walked down and back into his seat, as he felt a tear trickle down his cheek.

"Goodbye." He whispered.
