Sweet Uncertainty - Chapter 5
"Come on, Girardi, everybody has to have a baby shower"
"Well then throw one for Mr.Price, Grace, I realy dont want a party"
"Its like... sacred. You just have to have one"
"What is with you? I thought you hate these things"
"Girardi..."
"Im not going to get you off my back am I?" Joan turned and opened her locker, shoving her books inside, as Adam aproached the two girls.
"Rove tell your girlfriend shes coming to her baby shower" Grace stated, mater-of-factly.
"Grace, I cant make Jane do anything she dosent want to do" Adam smiled, as Joan lightly pressed her lips to his.
"Ugh, Gross, either you make her come, or Ill feed you your hat."
"Jane, Im sorry, but you have to go"
"Fine, alright" Joan slammed her locker and turned to Grace "Throw a freakin party"
"Thank you" Grace grinned, heading off to chemistry.
"What was that all about?" Adam asked after their friend was out of sight.
"I have no idea." she laughed, reaching for Adams hand, and walking to class.
----
"So do you have class tonight?"
"Yeah" Joan sighed, "first night, five to eight"
"That sucks, yo"
"Yeah, it does, but youll pick me up, right?"
"Cha, unchallenged, Jane" Adam smiled squeezing his girlfriends hand and turning his attention back to his chem notes.
"So, I hear your letting Grace plan your baby shower?" Luke turned to face his sister
"Yes, yes I am, can I help you with something dogboy?"
"Adam, if Joan is getting a baby shower, dont you think you should have a party too?" Friedman chimmed in.
Adam looked up from his notes, "Uh, no Im fine, yo"
"Ugh, you guys just back off" Joan ended the conversation, motioning them away.
----
"Ill see you at eight, Adam" Joan quickly kissed him goodbye before heading into the school. This was going to be the worst. The absolute worst. Life as she knew it, was over. "Here goes nothing" she thought, opening the classroom door, "room 102, how convienient"
"Welcome, Joan" the teacher smiled as she entered the room. "Please take a seat".
She had never seen this man before, He must have had her name on the attendance sheet, she decided, making her way to the only open seat in the back of the room. She sat next to a light red-headed girl, introducing herself as she took out her notebook.
"Im Joan Girardi"
"Hi, Im Maddison" the girl smiled.
"So, night school huh?" Joan asked.
"Yeah, when my boyfriend left me and my parents kicked me out, I had to drop out of school and get a job to support my baby. This is the only free time I have for classes."
'Wow' Joan thought, 'that poor girl'. "Im so sorry, when are you due?" She quickly tried to steer directions.
"Next month, on the 3rd." Maddison smiled, "you?"
"4 months. On the 12th". The two began to laugh. Neither knew what was funny, but both had a sudden calm as if they had found their new best friend there to guide them through their struggles.
When class had ended Joan couldnt wait to leave. She wanted so much to see Adam. She wanted to kiss him, to hug him, and to let him know just how thankfull she was that he was there with her, and not the million others places he could be. She wanted to run to her home and hug her parents... maybe they did go a little crazy when they found out, but they hadnt abandon her. And Joan was forever gratefull.
"My friends throwing some kind of baby shower thing next week" she told her new friend, "Why dont we make it a double"
"Aww, I couldnt..."
"Oh come on" Joan pleaded, "Itll be fun"
"Alright, fine" Maddison smiled "It sounds wonderfull".
