Author's Note: Leave me alone... I don't want to write anymore. I'm tired. I write only for myself now. Not that it matters since I'm not posting anymore, but this repost is almost completely different from the previous "Love or Death" I had up some time ago.
Love or Death
Prologue
"My life began with a flicker of passion, but now I must stop that flicker before it's too late…"
As the sun disappeared beyond the horizon and darkness fell upon the earth, there was an echoing heartbeat beating in the distance. It was a slow, hard beat that rippled softly upon the land surface. With every passing moment, the heartbeat quickened and became louder. The earth seemed to tremble with every beat.
Sitting several yards away from a cliff was a tree, which the heartbeat seemed to be generating from. The tree was about ninety feet tall and thirty feet around.
Inside the tree, in complete darkness, a pair of green eyes opened up.
Nothing registered in his mind.
No memory.
Fear and confusion were the only emotions he was feeling.
He couldn't see or hear anything except for his heavy breathing and pounding heart.
He was restrained by something at his wrists, forearms, upper arms, neck – but loosely - midriff, thighs, around his kneecaps, and his ankles.
"Go back, go back, go back..." The words echoed in his head.
The boy tensed as the words started to register in his head.
"Stop... Wait…" The two words echoed continually.
The boy let out a frustrated scream of fear and confusion.
The scream acted as a trigger and a portion of the tree, in a form of a circle, began to part and let in a bit of the full moon's light shine onto the boy's face.
He struggled until his restraints came loose, which he realized were vines. Panting, he yanked off the restraint from his neck first and then removed the rest. When all of the restraints came off, he fell out of the tree and landed with a loud thud on the floor. He groaned as he rolled over onto his back.
Staring up into the branches, he started to breath evenly after several minutes.
Concentrating on remembering and breathing, he didn't notice the few leafs that dropped from the tree onto his face. He needed to remember... Remember what?
"Please..."
The boy's face flinched.
"Mère! Mère!" A young boy's face echoed in his head.
"Mère..." He whispered. "Arrête...s'il te plait...ne me quitte pas... encore..."
Anger rushed into his heart and he shot up into a sitting position.
He now remembered what he must do.
