Summary: ' "Ron." "What?" "Thanks." ' Ron/Hermione

Every morning, without fail, Hermione Granger sits at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall precisely at the start of breakfast.

She neither gives nor needs any reason to rise earlier than any of her peers, other than the simple fondness for quiet.

The young girl does no more than sits herself at the center of the long table with a slice of toast on her plate, a goblet of pumpkin juice in her hand and a book resting on her lap. She continues to sit quietly with her small breakfast and her book until interrupted by the arrival of noise and bustle associated with her classmates.

Every morning, without fail, Ron Weasley sits at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall, precisely at the start of breakfast.

He never offers a reason or a purpose for appearing well before his classmates, but none is ever requested or required.

It is simply understood that the redhead would settle himself at the long oak table with nothing but a mug of black coffee and his own thoughts, and that he would remain in his own world until joined by the commotion and distraction provided by his peers.

Every morning, without fail, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley would sit, side by side, in unmoving silence. Ron never questions Hermione desire for silence, and Hermione never argues Ron's choice to accompany her. The pair continue to sit in warm, comfortable peace every morning, as quiet understanding passes through them.

"Ron."

Ron starts as Hermione interrupts him far earlier than she has in the past, bewildered as he stares around at the empty hall.

"What?"

"Thanks."

With a small smile, Hermione takes a sip from her goblet and returns to her book.
