AN: Whooo a fanfiction o! Well, I'm not exactly sure if this is a fanfiction since it really uses all original characters and a different setting, but it's all taken from the wonder FATAL FRAME video games for the PS2. Go play theemm!

DISCLAIMER: I do not own anything in Fatal Frame and… The ideas are only half mine… Well, a quarter mine XD. My friend and I came up with the plot and all, and half of it's based on Fatal Frame-ness o

'Discoveries…'

The midday sun was shining brightly through the feathered treetops over the small village, providing a nice spring day for the people. At first glance this small village seemed normal and quaint. Yet, upon closer inspection, one would find out horrible secrets about this 'admired' village. Well, they would seem horrible to outsiders, but to the people that lived there, these things were normal and part of everyday life.

And to outsiders, an isolated village like this with a high twin birthrate would be very abnormal. But it wasn't, really. Then twins were needed… And important. They were respected by all, yet they could never really figure out why until later in their life when I it /I occurred. But that's something to figure out over time.

"Rei! Rei, wait up!" A small girl called, running after her twin sister. "Oh, Chi, hurry up!" Rei replied, turning around to face her sister, stopping. Chi smiled, running up and grabbing her sister's hand. "Don't go too far ahead and leave me behind," she stated, frowning a bit. Rei giggled, "You know I wouldn't do that. Now come on, I want to show you this place! Papa said it's important."

Rei lead her sister up a winding path, and the two were almost completely out of breath as they neared the end. "Oh! Rei, do you see that red glow?" Chi questioned, looking to her sister as she panted. Rei nodded, glancing to Chi before back up the path. "Let's go check it out," she urged, pulling her sister after her as they ran up the last stretch of the path and stopped, gasping.

It had to be one of the most beautiful sights the twins had ever seen. The big lake was no longer clear and bright blue, but a deep, entrancing red as crimson butterflies danced across the water. "Rei! Rei! It's the butterflies! The butterflies Mama told us about!" Chi exclaimed as she pointed out over the water, stopping when she saw a long girl in the center of the lake. "Rei… What's that lady doing out there?" she questioned, calming down, "She looks… Sad…"

"But… Isn't that Chieme?" Rei replied, looking to her sister. "But… If that's Chieme, then where is-"

"Children…" A soft voice interrupted, and the two turned around to find their father. "Girls… Come here, please…?" he asked softly, kneeling down.

"Papa!" The two observed, running over and hugging their father. "Papa, why is Chieme out there alone?" Rei asked, looking up at her father, as did Chi. "Yeah, Papa, why is she? And where's Ayame?"

The father shook his head. "You two shall learn soon… Come, let's just go enjoy the celebrations, and dance with the butterflies," he coaxed, picking up each daughter so one was in each arm. He took one last glance at the lone girl on the lake as the crimson butterflies danced around her. He watched as she cried silently, tears that a lone butterfly tried to wipe away, before he turned away and headed down the path.

He knew all too well about the situation…
