Well, here's an attempt at a one-shot, regarding everybody's favorite Uchiha massacre-er, Uchiha Itachi. It's a different way of viewing him and what he's doing. I was actually thinking about Kingdom Hearts when this idea struck me so, yeh, here goes.
The darkness had swallowed him. It wasn't until he had seen his brother, Sasuke, on his hands and knees in front of his parents' dead bodies that he realized the full extent of what he had done. So he let his brother live. He told his brother that one day he needed to avenge the clan, and kill him, once he was strong enough. And with that, he left his home, the peaceful village of Konoha, and joined the Akatsuki.
He had returned once to see his brother's strength, and was disappointed. He wasn't nearly as strong as he should be, especially after this much time. Itachi had been stronger when he was nine, four years younger than Sasuke currently was. So he used the Mange Sharingan to try to increase his brother's hate for him, not because he was cruel person, because he wanted the freedom of death, given to him by the only remaining Uchiha other than himself. That was the only way he could die, for his brother to kill him.
Until then, he would have to wait.
Until then, he would be lost in the darkness, waiting for his brother to kill him so he could be freed from it.
