Part Three: The Oath
Now the night is falling,
I hear the silver horns calling.
The sun is setting, the sky is red,
My heart is filled with a piercing dread.
The teachers no longer can make the school ready,
They've made their wills to steel, their hearts beating steady.
First years hide now in the Great Hall,
And try not to think of the night that will fall.
Others are stationed all over the place,
Innocence lost, with what they soon will face.
Next to us now is Tonks and Remus,
They've come here tonight to fight right beside us.
Next to me I feel your breath as you sigh,
I wish that your fate you could simply deny.
Seven years ago, before your fate was known,
Back when we were searching for the Philosopher's Stone.
When we had though dear Sirius wanted you dead,
It was I who told him to take us all instead.
Never will I take back that oath I said,
Even if I'm lying, cold, sad, and dead.
I start to think of all that we've seen,
As you turn to look at me, with eyes of deepest green.
And stretch out towards me a trembling hand,
"Ron, my friend, please understand!
About my dream, I did not tell all,
I have also seen my own frightful fall!"
At first I laughed, thought you were lying,
Then I saw you, quietly crying.
You must have thought there was no other way,
Thought you were born to die today.
"Never, Harry, not while I'm still here!"
I shouted, face burning with my own hot tear.
"For all those years we've been there through thick and thin,
Through it all- only together could we win.
Hear me, Harry, loud and clear,
Both of us Gryffindors who face our fears,
Our bond of friendship runs deep, and true,
Whatever comes: We'll see it through!
This is my oath, this I swear,
I'll fight with you, through any dispair!
Come Hell, come Blight or come Death,
I'll stand by you, so long as I draw breath."
You smiled at me, as though a man about to die,
Put a slender arm around me, and said with a sigh,
"Ron, I don't know what I'd have ever done without you.
Giving me hope, friendship, love, and a family too.
And even if this is all the life I'll see,
I'm glad it was with you, mate, just you and me."
And with that said, all I am, bound up for years,
Slid down beside you, sobbing, choking on my tears.
Perhaps for both of us, this is finally the end,
Together forever, forever my friend.
Off in the distance, a warning horn sounds,
Death Eaters are coming, our fortress is found.
