Galahad Cat, Ember

A girl sat waiting for something, someone.

She didn't move, she hadn't moved, just stared at the open door.

Time past slowly for her the clock on the wall seaming to stop for moments at a time. The clock's hands were pulled across its face to 10:15 and still she waited.

Cars passed she held her breath every time one slowed down in fount of the house, did she want someone to walk through the door? Not anyone, no but him; she waited for him. She wanted him to take her far away, away from this house, away from this town. But she had to wait and then, if he came, only then would she leave.

Nobody would miss her. What would they do when she was gone, worry or be glad she was out of the way? No use wondering she couldn't see them again, she had to leave them behind like a past life.

What would she do when she got to the beach? Get aboard the boat he was getting and sail away into the sunset, but what if her never came or couldn't get a boat?

The clock showed 11:00 Cal was supposed to be here. And he isn't, he isn't coming. He's left me, here in the dark he doesn't want me. No he wouldn't do that my mind is making this up, we're soulmates he wouldn't leave me or betray me would he?

Of course he wouldn't I'm being delusional. I probably need blood, I'm getting breathless, we'll need to feed before going on the boat.

Why is life so hard? But if it wasn't I wouldn't have met Cal, which would have meant I wouldn't be a vampire, I wish Cal was human then we could have stayed instead of having to flee.

The girl was lost in thought, a boy of about 17 walked up to her. His bike sat outside the engine purring away. He took her hand gently and she looked up with faded green eyes.

"Cal" she whispered softly "I thought you'd never come."

"I wouldn't leave you like this." She leant into him grateful for his strength. He started to pull her to the bike knowing her unwillingness to actually go. It meant leaving memories, family and friends and going somewhere completely unknown to her.

Her breathing was ragged now, she was feeling very light-headed. She fell forward into his arms and he scooped her up and carried her outside, her knight in shinning armour.

He had brought a human for her to feed on. She was new and inexperienced but Cal was there to help her guide her.

She woke slowly knowing the smell of human which in turn meant food. Her humanity always struggled at this point and she felt horrible afterwards almost dirty. She'd get used to it she'd have to, to survive. Her teeth grew in anticipation and her eyes shone predatorily. She could feel the thump, thump of the humans heart. She sank her teeth into the neck, fresh, warm blood poured down her throat and she felt well again able to feel Cal's presence near.

Always unsure of how much to take she let Cal pull her away and brainwash the human. The human wandered off in a random direction, stumumbling. Cal held he still and she let him kiss her hair and neck.

"Come on." Cal's voice was soft speaking into her neck "Time to go."

He helped her to her feet and she turned around to meet his gaze, a searching, checking gaze making sure she was ok. Everything was behind her now her hopes for the future, her family. Only Cal was the future now. Her only support in a battle destined to go on forever.
