That one, small corner of the Astronomy Tower was her own sanctuary. Long chestnut hair falling in ringlets down her back and along her shoulders, pale skin glowing in the fragile moonlight. She looked out the nearest window into the starry sky with deep and passionate hazel orbs.

It was so dark and peaceful...

"Detention Entwhistle! I suggest you get back to your common!"

There was a sound of quick footsteps, followed by the same smooth and silky voice.

"And 40 points from Ravenclaw!"

She froze, arms wrapped around her knees, hair moving smoothly in the wind, breath caught in her throat, and her clear eyes wide.

The thud of heavy footsteps appeared near the entrance to the tower, there was a slight pause, then they continued up the steps, closer to where she sat.

Hermione Jane Granger scooted into the shadows slowly, the book that had lied limp in her arms earlier held closely at her side.

The tall, intimidating figure, otherwise known as the infamous Professor Severus Snape, stood at the top of the staircase, surveying the room with cold, lingering ebony eyes.

She sucked in a deep breath as the professor's steps tapped and pounded upon the smooth flagstone floor of the tower. And she watched with mute anticipation and fear as those tall black boots, which she had never seen him wear before, neared the place of which she had seated herself.

"I may not be able to see you," he hissed in his low and milky baritone of a voice, "but I can hear you."

Hermione involuntarily shivered at his tone and grasped the book she held tighter, causing the knuckles of her fair and delicate hands to go white from the pressure. Without warning, he kneeled beside the curtain she had concealed herself behind and glanced around, his dark and mysterious eyes glittering with intimidating malice.

His arm smoothly moved past the hangings to where she sat, frozen, his slender and smooth hands wrapping themselves around her fragile arm and then he suddenly tugged her out of her hiding spot.

She practically flew out into the cold room of the tower, losing her footing and, without warning, finding herself wrapped in her professor's arms in quite a compromising position. She doubted her face could get any redder as she was pushed away, and was thankful that it was nighttime for the embarrassment could have possibly gotten worse.

"Miss Granger," he hissed, as if forgetting about the situation that had just occurred. "Fifty points from Gryffindor for sneaking out and hiding in the Astronomy Tower, which is forbidden when Astronomy lessons are not in session."

"But professor-" Hermione gasped, her face going from pink to white as she discovered how much damage this could do to her.

"And," he continued maliciously, "a week of detention with me."

"No!" Hermione squeaked, but quickly covered her mouth. This was possibly her second detention ever and first with Professor Snape, and now she had a week's worth of them, which would ruin her chances of ever having a perfect record.

"Yes, Miss Granger. Now go to your dormitory before I decide to take away more points," he sneered at her.

Not noticing that his hand had still been clutching her arm during their conversation, Hermione broke away and scrambled down the staircase, a lump forming in her throat as she cursed herself for being so daft.
