Disclaimer: Although this poem does not mention the names of any characters, it was in fact inspired by the anime/manga series Saiyuki! I do not own any part of Saiyuki. Saiyuki belongs to the wonderful Kazuya Minekura…please don't sue! I don't have any money anyway, so you wouldn't be getting a whole lot.

Note: This is my first attempt at writing a poem for Saiyuki. For those of you who don't understand how it is relevant to Saiyuki…well…you should be able to tell. Hakkai is the speaker in the poem, by the way, and you'll have to figure out for your self who it is that comforts him, because I'm not going to tell you! It should be obvious to those of you that watch the anime/read the manga…

Tell Me To Live

I know what is right

I know what I should do

But still, the soft voice whispers in my ear

Telling me of all the things that could be

And for a moment, I am tempted.

Tempted towards taking that route

The easy way out

(Come) the voice says

(I can give you the world)

But just as I reach the breaking point

Your face comes into my mind

And I remember all the nights that you held me close to your chest

Against the rhythmic beating of your heart

And told me to live.

And in my minds eye, I can picture you

And what you would say if I gave in to the temptations

The disappointment on your face would be too much to bear

So, boldly, I ignore the voice

And continue on my way

But sometimes, on these cold, rainy nights

When the world is sleeping and at peace

The voice calls out to me

It tells me of all the wonders that could be mine

If I would only listen

Because it knows, it always knows

When I am most likely to be tempted again

A sob escapes my lips

And you hear (you always hear)

You creep quietly around our slumbering companions

And you hold me to your chest

And there, in the comfort of your arms

You tell me again what I have heard so many times before…

You tell me to live.
