A/N: I recently went through this again and realised I submitted the wrong version, so here, in it's entirety, is Watching Over You, 2 years, 9 months and 7 days after I first posted it.

Watching Over You

Crescent isle is so beautiful from up here, the sky is burning with the death throes of a setting sun, fiery reds and oranges fading into darkness.

I can see everything that happens from my perch on the craggy rock of the mountain, down below the island is working away as normal. Well, not quite normal. Crescent island is never what most people would class as 'normal', being the base of a legendary air pirate and all.

It's such a shame though that everyone down there has been so sad recently, they're all acting like the heart's been torn right out of the community. Vyse doesn't smile much any more, neither does Fina. Pity, because they look so beautiful together.

That's why I did it.

They'll understand someday. It had to be done. In the end, it came so easily... it even surprised me really.

It's amazing what you will do for love.

There was only one thing between Vyse and his true love...

I'd like to think that there isn't any more.

I can see them both from here, Vyse is crouching down next to a stone tablet carrying a bunch of flowers, Fina standing silently just behind him. He lays the flowers gently in front of the tablet and says a short prayer, a prayer that has become rather familiar to me after all the times I've heard it. Fina is still silent, but her head is bowed in respect now, as always. After a brief moment of silence, Vyse stands up, looks at Fina, then turns around and begin to walk away, with Fina following close behind.

I stand up and stretch out, the feeling of freedom is overwhelming. In one swift movement I dive forwards. The wind whips around my face, a comforting hand that strokes my cheek gently. The ground rushes up to greet me like a giant hammer, that at the last second turns into a pillow. I bounce as I hit the surface and land gracefully on my feet.

It doesn't surprise me.

It's not the first time I've done it after all. Nothing can beat the exhilarating feeling that it brings.

My second favourite spot on the island is just behind me, the carved stone tablet that Vyse just left. For a second, I admire the flowers he placed as they sway in the gentle breeze, then I turn my attentions toward the words carved on the tablet, every one of which I have commited to memory.

Our essence, our bedrock, our cornerstone,

I walk over to the stone and push myself up on it so that I'm sitting on the top, one hand either side of me steadying my balance.

You were all these things and more to us.

I see Vyse and Fina, arm in arm, walking back to the crew quarters. They still look sad.

Wherever you are, we know that it's a better place because of you,

They reach Fina's room. She kisses Vyse lightly on the cheek before saying goodnight, valiantly trying to hold back the one single tear threatening to break out of its prison in her emerald eye. It's the same every night.

A place that we all shall see one day, but until then,

Vyse looks back towards me, sitting calmly on the cold stone.

May you live in our hearts and minds forever,

But he wont see me.

We will always love you.

He'll never see me.
