It wasn't them. She knew that. When she saw them coming from across the room, or from across the street, she felt a smile itch onto her face. They were beautiful, both of them. She saw them both, like two broken from one. She could not help but admire them. They were perfect, so naturally, her discomfort was caused by her own thoughts, not theirs.

She smiled, as she always did when she saw them. She saw them now, walking, arms linked together, down the stairs to enter the hall. Deep inside, she wept.

They saw her as well. He gave her a deep stare, she a wide smile. Once they reached her, she disentangled herself to give her a brief hug. Then he muttered an even briefer "Yo" before turning his gaze to look down the long corridor. She couldn't help but grin like a maniac at his attitude. She turned back to her, saying happily, "Hey, Kikyo! How've you been?"

Kikyo replied, "Good. Inuyasha andI went down to see a movie, and then we went out for dinner." Her smile faded slightly. "You should have come!" She projected the last sentence, reaching out a hand to place lightly on her shoulder.

She gave a small laugh and shrug. "Naw, I didn't want to intrude. I was busy besides." Her reply was false, only in part. She did not want to tag along and watch them talk, laugh, look into each other's eyes as only they could do. She could not.She hadn't been busy, but she knew not what else to say.

"Well, maybe next time. Right, Kagome?"

She looked into her friend's eyes, wondering if she truly meant it. She saw no false pretenses and decided it was safe. "Sure, next time." She conceded.

Kikyo squealed. "Good!"

Slinging her back pack over her shoulder, she cast a look to each of them, one slightly longer than the other, and giving a cheery good bye, rushed off down the hall, unable to stay with them any longer. She reached the end of the hall and could not stop her eyes from turning to look at them, from afar. There they stood, her face turned as she brought her lips to his. She watched his hands run through her hair. She felt a twist in her side and took off in a run down the hall, feeling the tug of a smile on her lips. She was so happy to see them happy, him happy. It made her so glad...she hurt inside.

They were perfect, so good to one another. He was a god, and she his goddess. To look upon them and witness their love for one another was a gift. She could not help but see this. And seeing it, she wept.

AN: Aw...sad, I know. I'm not really sure what this is. I guess this is what it would be like if Kikyo and Inuyasha lived in Kagome's time. If they lived without demons who ruined their lives they would still be together, and Kagome wouldn't be with Inuyasha. Sadly, becauseI alwaysthought Kagome and Inuyasha were meant to be together, but it's true. Well, thanks for reading...Niiroke.
