Ginny/Bellatrix – crazy/sane
They were going to lose. Ginny knew this. And unlike most of those left fighting on her side, she could bring herself to accept it.
Which was why she felt unusually calm when Bellatrix Lestrange cornered her amongst what was left of Diagon Alley and placed a Petrificus Totalus over her entire body. It was inevitable that they would all be caught; what good did it do to fight for a future they had already lost?
Now she was being lifted off the ground and idly twirled around, spun slowly sideways and head over heels, her robes slipping down over her legs as the world turned upside down. She saw snatches of a leering face, eyes that despite their glint of madness seemed to be studying her intelligently. Ginny kept her face carefully expressionless. She had no intention of actually revealing her cowardice, not now, just before her death.
"I remember your bravery," came the all-too-familiar voice. Ah, yes. Bellatrix liked to play before she killed. "Yes...you never gave up your little fight, even when you knew intimately the power of the Dark Lord."
"I was naive." Ginny knew it wouldn't stop until the witch got what she wanted.
"Perhaps. But you have learned your lesson already, while others continue to labor under the false delusion that they have a chance in this fight. You, my dear, are the one who has realized that your pathetic lot may as well be children throwing rocks at armoured knights."
Ginny's constant spinning stopped, facing Bellatrix, her head pointed to the ground. Now the figure that had been second only to Riddle in haunting her dreams sauntered closer until Ginny couldn't tell anymore who was inverted and who wasn't.
"I know you better than you think, girl. I know that you've never truly gotten what you wanted. A complete identity among the brood, an unworried life. The fool you loved."
Ginny found then that she couldn't hold back tears and sneer at the same time.
Bellatrix moved until her inverted face was just inches away. "You don't want to die like that, do you?" A half-smile turned her lips. "And they say I'm insane."
And with that, she turned and walked away, leaving Ginny suspended in the air with tears running down her forehead.
