Lost in the Mail

A/N This is my first SG: Atlantis fic, though I've been writing for years. Sorry if anyone's out of character, but I'm not used to writing other peoples' characters. Any inaccuracies are entirely my fault.

This story came about because a bunch of us on a SG:1/Atlantis forum hate Kavanagh. Only the first of several ideas…

Disclaimer: Stargate: Atlantis isn't mine. If it was, Kavanagh would already be dead, or marooned.

Spoiler: Only "Letters from Pegasus"

Reviews welcome. Flames will be ignored.

Exiting the room, Lieutenant Ford walked a safe distance away before he stopped. Safely out of Dr. Kavanagh's sight, Ford snickered. That self-righteous idiot never noticed that the video camera was not set to record! So he could complain about Weir's supposed mistakes as long as he wanted, but no one would ever hear them.

Don't know what he thinks they're going to do all the way from Earth. Remove Dr. Weir from command in favor of him? Ford thought, snorting. He turned toward the door to the conference room, waiting for some sign that Kavanagh had finished. Or ran out of air…Ford should only be so lucky.

Dr. Kavanagh drew himself up, staring seriously enter the camera, and continued with his long list of Dr. Weir's perceived faults. He was so busy with his self-appointed task that he did not notice anything amiss.

Concluding his message at long last, Kavanagh moved to the doorway and opened it. "I am done, Lieutenant."

Ford straightened from his position against the wall. "About time! I mean, all right." He didn't bother to hide his relief. He started to go in around Kavanagh, but the scientist stopped him.

"I trust you won't tell Dr. Weir about the contents of my message?"

Ford smiled too widely. "No. I didn't hear that much. Didn't you record anything for family? Friends?" he asked curiously.

Kavanagh shook his head. "Not that it's any of your business, but I didn't." There was no one he wanted to communicate with. No one who cared, anyway.

"Ah." Ford didn't know what else to say without making his dislike plain. He gathered up his equipment and left, headed to one of the labs. He hoped no one checked to see that there was a message from everyone on the tape. He could probably handle a question from Weir, but if Kavanagh ever found out…Well, Ford wasn't afraid of the scientist.
