I don't own any of the characters in this story, I'm just borrowing them.

This story is based on the scene in Hooked where Elliot has to ask his daughter if she has had sex with a particular boy.

Kathleen watched her father walk away. He had been scared that she'd had sex with a particular guy. He must have found out something during his latest case about the boy. She couldn't believe that he was a rapist so that left one thing, STD's. She knew that her father couldn't tell her that someone was HIV without the person's permission but he'd skated pretty close to it. God, she had almost fallen for the guy's line.

Her parent's marriage was falling apart, and she thought that she knew what had gone wrong. Her mother had gotten pregnant with Maureen way too young. Her parents hadn't had a chance. Raising four kids and Dad's job had left them with no time for themselves. She had decided that wasn't for her so she had quit having sex. She sighed. Well she hadn't had any in six months; she hoped it was long enough.

She walked into the clinic, "Can I help you miss?" the nurse asked her.

"Yes, I would like to be tested for HIV/AIDS." Kathleen told her.

The nurse looked at the young girl in front of her, sixteen years old and scared. The look in her eyes though, told the nurse that she was determined to go through with this. She nodded, "Step this way, honey."

"Don't you need my name or something?" Kathleen asked her.

"Sure, but we do all of that back here for that test." The nurse, who's name was Rose, opened a door to an exam room and she and Kathleen went inside.

When Kathleen left she knew she would have to wait a few days for the result but she would have it on Friday, Rose had promised.

On Friday she walked into the clinic and was greeted by Rose. They walked into the same little room and Rose prepared her for either result. Then she handed her the envelope and Kathleen opened it. She wept and Rose held her, then she gathered herself together and went back to her grandmother's house.

On Saturday morning her father came to pick her up, they were going to spend the weekend in the city. She had a feeling that he was trying to get to really know what each of his kids wanted, after. After the divorce, after he finally admitted that it was over.

He smiled at her; she smiled back and threw her bag in the back. "Hi, Dad."

"Hi sweetheart," he started the car and they drove away. A few blocks later though she asked him to pull into a parking lot. Puzzled, he did so.

"What's wrong?" he asked her.

"Remember what you asked me a few days ago?" Kathleen started.

Elliot nodded, suddenly scared of what the next words would be. He'd had to face HIV from the blood of an attempted suicide. Olivia had had to face it when an old boyfriend had tested positive years after they broke up. Now he was scared all over again, his daughter had been exposed.

Kathleen handed him the slip of paper with her test results on it. She said nothing while he looked at it, then at her, tears glistening in his blue eyes. He took her into his arms and they held each other tight for a long time.

"Thank you, Kathleen," he whispered.

She nodded and smiled a little and he started the engine again the little slip of paper falling to the floor of the car unnoticed. After all it only had one word on it.

'Negative'.
