Don't Forget Me
A/N – The challenge was to write a story in which Remus was depressed and suicidal, so here it is. Shout out goes to my friend Kay who gave the original challenge, and my best friend, who wrote the original Remus suicide. Enjoy! Comments and constructive criticism only, all flames will go to heat my non-existent fireplace.
Disclaimer: I do not own Remus Lupin, though I wish I did, he belongs to the wonderfully talented JK Rowling. The song "Gone" belongs to Montgomery Gentry, I am just borrowing the song for story purposes.
Remus Lupin sighed as he lifted the bottle to his lips. It had been two weeks since Sirius' death, two of the worst weeks of Remus' life. Now that Sirius was gone, he had no one and nothing to live for.
Gone.
Gone like a freight-train, gone like yesterday
Gone like a soldier
in the civil war, bang bang
Gone like a '59 Cadillac
Like all
the good things that ain't never coming back
The word stung on his lips as he lifted the bottle up one more time.
Gone.
This ain't no temporary, typical, tearful good-bye, uh uh uh
This
is gone (gone) gone (gone) gone (gone) gone
A lone tear slid down his cheek and he quickly bushed it away.
Remus couldn't deal with the pain anymore, couldn't bear to see everyone he loved disappear. He reached over to his bedside table and grabbed the knife that was lying there. Slowly he ran it over his wrist, droplets of blood gently falling to the floor, a small pool of red forming by his bed.
"Don't do it." A voice beside him whispered near his ear. "Stay strong for Harry, he needs you."
Remus glanced around him for the source of the voice. "I can't," he cried, digging deeper into the skin on his right wrist.
"Harry needs you, Remus, you're the only one he has left."
"No!" he cried, throwing the bottle against the wall and wincing as it shattered into pieces. "Damnit, what can I do?" he cried, more frustrated than anything.
The voice didn't answer right away.
"Damnit, answer me! What can I do?" Remus yelled, pounding his fist down on the table.
"Protect him. Love him. Help him. Don't go away. He's lost everyone he loves, don't let him loose you. He needs you, Remus, protect him."
"But why?" Remus demanded, his voice growing softer with each breath he took.
"Protect him…Protect him…" the voice trailed off
Remus couldn't handle it anyway. He collapsed backward on the bed, the knife clanging to the floor, tears cascading down his cheeks, his eyes fluttering shut.
Gone like all the good things, that ain't ever coming back.
Gone.
Gone, like James, Lily, Sirius. Gone, like everyone he loved most in his life.
He took one last ragged breath and closed his eyes for the final time.
"I love you Harry. I'm sorry."
