James woke up with a start, the nightmare fresh in his mind. His eyes flew open and he lay, paralyzed, wishing that it wouldn't come true. He sprang up and ran to the windowsill.
Lily was awakened by a pecking at her window. She walked over to the window, still rubbing her eyes, and remembered her pact with James that she had made. She jumped over to the window and let out the breath she had been holding. She opened the window and let the owl in.
"Lily,
We just wrote to tell you that we will be visiting your Grandmother over the break, so we won't be able to see you. She is sick, but hopefully will get well soon. We wanted to tell you this early so you can owl us a few letters for Grandmother before we leave. We love you with all of our hearts.
Love,
Mum and Da"
James scrambled to get his swim trunks on, tripping over Sirius' leg, hanging over the edge of the bed. Making sure Sirius didn't wake up, James was more careful about going to the dresser. After changing and throwing a shirt on, James ran to the Head Girl's room.
He slowed down a few steps before Lily's door, and was startled to hear muffled sobbing.
He knocked on the door quietly, and waited for an answer. The crying became softer, as if trying not to be heard, and while he waited a few minutes more, slowly grew louder. He knocked again, and when there was no response, quietly opened the door.
"Lily?" he whispered. A red eyed Lily looked up from her place among the pillows and comforters on her bed. She recognized the voice, and the tall stature as James, even in the dark room.
James removed the blankets, and opened the curtains that were blocking the window. He walked back to Lily's bed, picking up something off the dresser as he went. He laid down next to her and dried the tears lingering on her face with the material he picked off the dresser.
"It's raining," she said, and her voice cracked, she burst into tears anew, burying her head into his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and held her to him. "I'm being so stupid," she claimed between sobs, "I wish I could blame my absurdity on hormones or the like, but this is just me being idiotic."
James laughed slightly and rubbed her back. "It's ok," he told her, "everyone needs to be silly sometime. This is just your time. This is just everything building up. Just let it out, Lily. It's going to be all right."
Lily looked up at him and wiped her eyes. "I promised myself I wouldn't go out with you. I wouldn't fall for your lines, and I wouldn't get hurt," she tried to explain. "Then yesterday, I made that pact, and I was so happy about it. I woke up this morning, and it was raining." Lily buried her head into his chest once again, but James stopped her.
He shifted, so he was sitting up against the headboard with Lily in his lap. James was scared that this was too bold a move, but when Lily didn't shrink away, he became more relaxed.
"You think that I will let you go so easily?" he asked. "I know it is raining, but you know what?" he lifted her head to smile at her. He lifted up the material that he wiped her eyes with to show her her bathing suit.
"That just means you will freeze your booty off in that water." Lily was shocked. She opened her mouth to protest getting anywhere near that freezing water, and remembered the night before.
"Would you really say yes?" he finally asked.
"James…" she paused, contemplating, and looked through the window to the storm outside. "If we go swimming tomorrow, I will say Yes." She squeezed his hand.
" 'Yes'" she whispered, and she kissed him.
I hope this was good. I lost my sequel when I went up to Sacremento, so I had to write a new one. I hope this is cute, so go review and tell me if it is or not!
Love,
