You See But My Shadow

I watch you all the time.

I can hear your heart make a beated rhyme,

I stand amazed at God's creation.

I see you when you think you're alone

Even when you visit that precious stone,

To express your lamentation.

Your voice is unlike any other,

Reaching me where in the darkness I hover

And hide my face.

Someday we shall meet, you and I.

You'll think I've come from the glorious sky

And you'll show me your wondrous grace.

But on another occasion you shall see

The horrid face which was never meant to be

That belongs to this creature so low.

You'll long to be under someone else's law

And long for the days when all you saw

Was but my shadow.
