The Unforgotten Past

Chapter 1

Author's Note: This story deals very heavily with Margo's rape storyline and the issue of rape in general. It doesn't get anymore graphic than what you would see on the show (which is why I chose a pg13 rating instead of R), but I thought I should warn you it deals with a sensitive subject. It might not be appropriate for younger readers.

Margo sat at her desk at the station working on a case. "Damn," she swore. No matter how she looked at it, it just didn't come out right. She was about at her wits end when she felt a couple of hands massaging her shoulders. She smiled, she'd know that feeling anywhere. "When did you come in?" she asked. "About the time you started swearing at your file there," Tom said. "Tough Case?" he asked. He knew they both had extremely demanding jobs but ever since her HCV incident she always grew tired easier and only he could get her to slow down. "What else is new, but I'll be willing to call it a day if you give me a back rub," Margo replied. "What are we still doing here then," Tom said smiling.

They held hands as Tom drove the car home. Neither of them said anything but just enjoyed the quiet. At least they each thought the other was. Tom took his eyes off the road for a minute and looked at Margo. She was staring straight ahead intently, as though she were trying to figure something out. "Looks like she didn't leave her work at the office," Tom thought to himself. He turned to Margo and said, "You want to tell me about that case you're thinking about?" This jerked Margo out of her thoughts and she had to smile. After twenty-two years of marriage, she could no longer hide things from her husband, but she decided she didn't want to think about work anymore tonight. "You know what? No," she said firmly. "Work will still be there tomorrow," she continued as Tom looked down to see her hand on his thigh. "But you and I are right here and right now," Margo finished as she ran her hand up his leg and then reached over and passionately kissed him and took his breath away, her hands running over as much of his body as the constricted space would allow.

Once Tom got over the shock of what just happened he said, "Not that that wasn't one of the best kisses I've ever had, but aren't we a little old to be making out in a parked car?"

"Are we?" Margo asked looking totally innocent. Tom nodded.

"That's funny because when I'm with you I feel like a teenager again," she said, her hands still roaming all over his body.

"Is that right?" Tom said.

Margo nodded with a spunky grin on her face.

"Casey at practice?"

Margo nodded again.

"Race you to the bedroom?" Tom asked.

Margo nods again and they both got out of the car, went into the house, and up to the bedroom at a record speed. Margo and Tom both giggled, leaving their work problems behind them. Both of them missed this with each other. Their damn jobs kept them from doing this as often as they'd like.

Once they got to the bedroom, they made love. Afterwards, Tom looked over at his wife who was sleeping next to him. She was so beautiful. Just to feel her bare skin next to his and her breath in his ear was the most wonderful thing in the world to him. He hated so much to wake her but Casey would be home soon and as good as their lovemaking was, he didn't think Margo would fancy Casey running into them like this. He turned and kissed her on the forehead, trying to wake her up.

"Margo, honey?" he called to her. She barely stirred. He shook her a little harder. "Honey, come on, we have to get up. Casey will be home soon." This time, Margo woke up only long enough to mumble a "That's nice, dear" and then go back to sleep. Man, she's really tired, Tom thought. "Come on honey, we can go to bed early tonight," Tom said

After a little more coaxing from Tom, Margo got out of bed, got dressed and went they went downstairs together just in time for Casey to walk through the door. Everyone was starving, so they decided to order a pizza for dinner and enjoyed it with salad and lemonade to drink. While they ate, they small talked, laughed, and really enjoyed each other. None of them remembered any of the problems they had earlier that day until they heard a strange noise coming from outside. It sounded like tires screeching followed by the most gut wrenching human scream they had ever heard.

"What the hell...," Margo said as she hurried out the door to see what happened.
