Hey guys,

Here is chapter 6. I will warn you in these next few chapters,

things get rather tense between Tom and Margo. Just remember, a good

fight means an even better make-up scene. I just couldn't see

writing this story without everything that happens here. I think it

would be what a real married couple would go through durring

something like this.

comments: the good and the bad.

Chapter 6

Tom left his office thinking about the call he just got. Who

could that have been and who were they talking about? Someone from

Vietnam? 'No,' he thought. It couldn't be that. But the only other

person he killed was... Elroy Nevins. Margo was right. Someone was

coming after them because of anger over Nevin's death. Great, he

thought. This is just what he and Margo needed right now.

Margo was sitting at her desk staring at a mountain of

paperwork that she was supposed to catch up on when Jack walked up to

her. "Margo, I just got an email from a Detective Goldman from

Chicago PD. He saw the composite drawing we sent through the

Internet and said our serial rapist is wanted there as well. They

couldn't keep him because of a lack of evidence but now it looks like

with the charges here and there, there will be enough

evidence." "Wow, that's great," Margo said before Jack was

finished. "There's more. This David Jones we have. Apparently,

that's his alias. Detective Goldman said it sounded like a man named

Richard Nevins," Jack explained.

Margo turned her head up and looked at Jack like she had been

shot. "Hey, what's the matter?" Jack asked. "What was that name

again?" Margo asked certain she had heard it wrong. "Richard

Nevins. Someone you know?" Jack asked confused about her reaction.

Margo started getting angry, certain it was a sick joke. "Is that

supposed to be a joke," she said her voice getting louder as she

continued, "Because I don't find that funny, Jack!"

Numerous thoughts started swimming in Margo's head all at

once. She was sure he said "Nevins," but it couldn't be. It had to

be a coincidence, but at the same time it would explain everything

that went on in the past month. The gut feelings she had, the sense

of deja-vu she felt when she took the descriptions of the man those

three women said raped them. It all started to make

sense. "Margo?" Jack asked, trying to snap her out of her daze.

Just then, Tom walked in wanting to tell Margo about the

phone call he got, "Hey guys," he said and then stopped when he

noticed the tension in the room. "What's going on?" Tom asked.

Margo took a deep breath and filled him in on what Jack just told

her. Tom sat down and let out a sigh, this was far from what he was

expecting. Jack broke the silence, when he said, "Ok, obviously, you

two know something that I don't. You want to fill me in?" "I'm

sorry, Jack, it just took me by surprise," Margo explained. She

looked into Tom's eyes for a minute to give her the courage to go

on, "Ordinarily, I'd say this was a coincidence, but with everything

that's been going on the past month, we can't write if off. Jack, as

we have talked about, I was raped twelve years ago, and that's why I

ended up contracting Hepatitis C and needing surgery." Jack had

known that since he met her; he had read up on her when he first

came to town, not to mention people still talked about it. "I'm

still confused," Jack said and waited for Margo to finish.

"The rapist was a man by the name of Elroy Nevins." Jack

understood now. "Oh, boy," he said, "So, you're thinking this is the

same guy, that the detective just got the name wrong or something?"

Margo continued to explain, "No, it can't be the same guy. When we

found out that Nevins was HIV positive, we charged him with attempted

murder and he was sent to prison. Later, he started sending another

woman he had raped along with myself some threatening notes. It

wasn't long after that, he escaped from prison. We sent the kids to

their grandparents just in case and that night, he came to our house."

Tom took over and said, "I thought I heard something so I got

Margo's gun and went downstairs. That's when I saw him. I got angry

and asked him what he was doing in my house when I saw him reach for

something. I assumed it was a gun and I wasn't going to let him hurt

my family again, so I shot him. Twice. He died at the scene."

Margo reached over, took his hand, and tried to comfort him with the

soft look in her eyes. Even after all these years, it was still hard

for him to talk about.

A few minutes later, Margo went down to the basement of the

station pull the file they had on Elroy Nevins. She was determined

that she was going to look through everything they had to see if he

had any known relatives. She was going to find this bastard or die

trying. Once she got all the dust off of Nevins' file and had a

chance to look at it, sure enough, she found what she was looking for

and went back upstairs to tell Jack and Tom.

"I've got it!" Margo said as soon as she saw Jack and Tom in

the squad room. "Look, right here," she said as she pointed to the

information in the file. "It says he has a brother, Richard. This

Richard Nevins is our guy." "Great!" Jack said, "Now we just have to

haul him in. Good work, Margo!"

"Yeah, about that, Jack," Margo said, "I have a really bad

idea about how to catch him."

"What's that?" Tom asked. "Well," Margo began hesitantly, "What if

we give him what we think he wants."

"And what would that be?" Tom asked.

"Well, Tom. Jack and I have discussed this briefly." Margo

explained. Tom knew she was stalling and pushed her to

continue, "Margo, just tell me, what is this plan you have thought

up?" he said impatiently.

Margo braced herself for her husband and partner's reaction and then

said, "Me."
