The road to happiness
The ship sailed and Legolas's eyes were veiled with sadness. "It's normal" was his father's thought "Everyone would be sad if they were leaving the land where they were born and they lived for many years"
They reached the white shores and Legolas's sadness seemed to grow. "It's normal"was his father's thought "It will take him a little time to adapt to his new home"
Time passed and Legolas became more and more restless. "It's normal"was his father's thought "He probably needs to spend more time with his friends".And so he organized parties and balls , but in vain: the smile disappeared from legolas's face.He started wandering alone in the moor or along the shores.
One evening , during a party, someone sang a very funny song about Celeborn and Narvi. At first legolas laughed, but after a secomd he ran out from the room with a napkin pressed on his mouth.
After the party was over, Thranduil, deeply embarassed by his son attitude, went up to his room to talk to him.But Legolas wasn't there. His princely clothes laid on the bed.All his belongings were stil there apart from his beloved bow.
The next morning they discovered that a small ship had been stolen during the night.Thranduil could not approve but he understood and secretly he wished his son good luck.
The caverns inside the Mountain were always lit by great lamps; nothing however had ever shone so bright as that strange creature. All the dwarves turned to stare as he made his way towards the hall where , he somehow knew, Gloin and his family were having dinner.
As he closed the door behind him , everyone inside the room fell silent. There was a pause and then there was Gimli's cry: "Legolas" , as he stood up and ran to embrace his friend.
Gloin after he understood who the stranger was, called his servants and ordered them to prepare a room and to bring a chair for his son's best friend had arrived. And so Legolas sat at Gloin's table, his eyes veiled with tears , but they were tears of joy.
Legolas was the only elf ever to live and to work under the Mountain. But hard work and smoke did not spoil his beauty.Across the sea his people turned grey and lifeless and in the end they disappeared from the world. He always shone as bright as the first day he had entered there. And when the time came he and his friend fell asleep side by side and together they slept and dreamt forever.
