Yeah
I know sometimes things may not always make sense to you right
now
Twenty-eight year old Robin sat on a pale green chair in the emergency room. His eyes were wide and bloodshot, his hair was messy and hung damp in his eyes. His skin was ashen and his hands were shaking. On a hospital bed three feet away from him lay Starfire, his wife. Her breathing was ragged and her skin was pale and sweaty. Her heart rate was irregular and they had no idea what was going on. Next to Robin sat a four year old girl by the name of Sara Grayson, his daughter.
But hey, what daddy always tell you?
Straighten up little soldier
Stiffen up that upper lip
What you crying about?
You got me
It had happened so quickly. Starfire had been on her morning flight with Raven when she had screamed and fallen from the sky. Raven had saved her from hitting the rocks in the bay below, but it had been a close call. They had gotten her to the hospital just in time. The doctors had been working for four hours on her. They had refused to say anything. At one point they had forced them out of the room to do an operation. Robin had paced restlessly until they were allowed back in. Sara had cried for a while but now she merely hiccupped. Robin put his arm around his little daughter and held her close to him. She snuggled into his uniform. "Daddy?" she said quietly.
"Yes?"
"I don't want Mama to die"
"Neither do I, sweetheart. Neither do I…"
Now hush little baby, don't you cry
Everything's gonna be alright
Stiffen that upper lip up little lady, I told ya
Daddy's here to hold ya through the night
Finally, a doctor approached them. Robin stood quickly, his face tense and nervous. He walked over to the doctor, leaving Sara on the chair. "Mr. Grayson", said the doctor. "Yes?" said Robin nervously.
"After much work, we are happy to say that Mrs. Grayson will come out fine…"
Sweet relief spread through Robin. He fell into a chair next to him, his head in his hands, his powerful shoulders shaking.
"…and so will the baby"
Robin's head snapped up. "Baby…?" he stuttered. "Apparently, Mrs. Grayson's Tamaranian immune system wasn't completely ready to take on a virus that some pregnant women can get. It isn't deadly, but since she wasn't ready to fight it, it nearly lost her the baby. Fortunately, you got her to us before that happened". They doctor smiled. "Congratulations. Sara's going to be a big sister". Robin thanked the doctor greatly and walked slowly over to his daughter. "Is Mama gonna be OK, Daddy?" asked Sara as her father sat down next to her.
I know mommy's not here right now and we don't know why
We feel how we feel inside
It may seem a little crazy, pretty baby
But i promise momma's gon' be alright
"Yeah, Mama's going to be fine"
