First of all thanks to those who sent me the emails telling me how great my story was. And those who asked questions, yes, this is a completed story…as in no more chapters and it stands alone. As much as it sounds like a good beginning to something larger, if it is to be I have no idea what It could be yet. Perhaps in the future. As for now, it's my one and only Zelda fanfic to date, and if I'll write more? Only time will tell.
Oh yea, before I forget, I don't own any characters here, except the Sparx.
The meadow had been silent for the past hour. Dawn had approached and the sky behind the hills began to lighten. The Sparx had been up since sunrise. They were now hovering silently in front of Link, as if asking 'what's to happen?' The Sparx had been known to be a very peculiar kind of fairy. They could sense the slightest change of movement or emotion. They could feel it just the way you do; and now they felt Link's.
The day had seemed to be right. No rain, no wind, just sunshine. The Sheikahs were hard to find. They were the shadow people after all. They simply disappeared; just blended into the background. But this would be the day…
The Sheikahs were the most vulnerable in the spring, when all they worried about was having fun. This game had begun so long ago. It had started as a kid's game, but in these 7 years it had evolved to being a test of skill. He had caught enough Sheikahs over the years, but the older they got the harder it was. The sun was up now. Link was covering his eyes with his hand blocking the glare. Then, he heard it. A crack of a stick, a sudden movement of the Sparx. Link knew it was time.
He saw nothing but felt a Sheikah nearby. The meadow was plain; some trees and bushes lightly scattered. He heard another twig. So close…Link decided it was enough. He was tired of these stupid games. Sheikahs. Sheik-ahs. Who were they to play, anyway? He got to his feet lightning fast and threw himself forward holding his arms out as to either grab something or to capture it. As fast as he jumped, he fell to the ground knocking his chin, his jaw closing shut. He got up and turned around at the sound of soft laughter. It was no one but Sheik.
Since Ganondorf was defeated, 'Sheik' hadn't come back here to the meadow, or the field or the forest. 'Sheik…' Link said. Not much in surprise, but with maddening anger. It seemed like the Sheikahs were simply a people who liked to make others into fools. Yet 'Sheik' wasn't a skeika. Far beneath that manly disguise was the princess. Yet it was all lost now.
She was raised by a Sheikah after all. Impa, her caregiver, was probably the one who turned Zelda into one of them in the 1st place. They will forever pay for this long stupid game...They must be beaten! If Link wasn't the one to do it, no one would.
The Sparx began to crazily fly around, surrounding both Sheik and Link. Sheik also saw the Sparx rushing crazily in the air. Something was wrong. What can this mean? Had something…happened? Hidden behind the shadows Sheik stretched to look at Link. What he saw in his eyes gave Sheik a sense that there would be no more laughter, no more smiles.
As fast as lightning Link took out his hook shot, ready to shoot at any moving target. Waiting patiently, for any sound, any movement of the Sparx. It was only when Sheik realized Link's seriousness, that a wave of sadness engulfed Sheik and the Sparx around him, making their movements ripple. This was all Link needed. Before he knew it, the hook shot was pointed at Sheik and fired.
