AN: I was just messing around with different styles of writing, and this is the result. I'd especially love reviews and constructive criticism for this piece. I still think it's missing something. It's much appreciated.
The dazzling brilliance of orange, blue and purple hues in the sky as the sunset that evening created such an extreme serenity that you'd want nothing more than to swim with all of the dark colors spiraling around you in an endless sea of beauty. The sky as the sun set was enough to make anybody feel beautiful. Birds flew by in the crisp air and time just seemed to stop. It was a magic utopia of peace and positive spirits.
They walked slowly, side by side, taking short steps, pretending to be absorbed in the essence of the neighborhood at this hour instead of each other. It was doubtful that even a picture could have captured this perfect innocence.
Neither dared to shatter the silence that fell over them. Besides, what would they talk about? What was he, after all? A boy with a few good jokes and a contagious smile? And what was she? A brainy girl who could solve equations off the top of her head faster than anyone in the entire school could with a calculator?
It was just the simple feeling of knowing that they had each other. The feeling of knowing that they could gaze past each other's stereotype and see what no one else was willing to see. They were opposite ends of a balance, they provided the stability the other needed to stand, and somehow that was enough. It didn't matter that they didn't watch the same movies or make the same grades. It was that they could accept and understand each other even though one stood on the other side of the balance. It was that she could smile at him and know without an ounce of doubt in the world that he would be there to smile back.
Their relationship was like a whisper; secretive, soft, and unknowing to those who didn't pay close attention. It felt to them, however, that the world should be aware, since emotions run so deep. To them it was something conspicuous, something impossible to miss.
They took their eyes off the setting, smiles playing at both of their mouths, and he clasped her hand, and she grinned. And just like she knew he would, he grinned back, and they knew that this was their moment. Their moment where the world just stopped spinning, just for them, and she didn't have to worry about finishing her science project and he didn't have to have jokes up his sleeves or a funny story to tell. It was just them, together.
Finally.
