It was this advertisement that caught Samuel Gray's eye one fateful February morning. He thought about his daughter, 24-year old Valerie, who hadn't had a steady boyfriend since high school, and hadn't had a date in months. With a smile, Mr. Gray quickly accessed the website and filled out the entry form for his daughter. He knew she'd be upset at first, but he was sure that with time, the idea would grow on her. Besides, millions of women were sure to sign up. What were the chances his Valerie would be one of them?

Meanwhile...

Tucker "Tuck Gates" Foley was sitting in a boardroom at ABC World Headquarters, being briefed on his duties as "The Bachelor." At 23 years old, Tucker was one of the most successful computer program designers in the world. His computer software company, Phantom (affectionately named after his best friend's alter-ego), had surpassed Microsoft in performance and profits consistently for the past year, and was still gaining ground. Choosing Tucker as the next Bachelor had been a no-contest situation: he was the ideal candidate; young, good-looking, and rich.

On the first day of application acceptions, over 100,000 women had applied for the coveted 16 slots as "Bachelorettes." With each succeeding day, the number increased, until they'd hit a record 1 million women in a single day.

In order to prevent Tucker from getting a predisposed opinion about any of the women, he was forbidden by the network to read any of the applications. Instead, ABC called in the experts: Tucker's best friends, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel and Samantha Fenton. Danny and Sam, as they were often called, read through hundreds of thousands of applications (this was after a computer had done a search and eliminated anyone who had a criminal record or was in jail). After about a week, the duo was able to narrow it down to about fifty. Then, it was the network's job to decide which of the girls would be chosen for the honor of being the possible future Mrs. Tucker Foley.

"Here you go, Tucker," Cheryl Howard said, handing Tucker a list. She was the casting director for the show, and had been one of the main people throughout the process of choosing the Bachelorettes. Tucker looked down at the list: it contained the names and hometowns of the final 16 girls.

Tucker smiled. "Hello, ladies," he muttered under his breath. Suddenly, he noticed one of the names: Valerie Gray had been selected as one of the contestants!

A/N: Okay, that's the end of the prologue. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce the names of all the girls. After this point, each chapter will basically be one week during the show, and I will end each chapter with a Rose Ceremony. I would appreciate any help as far as information on the real show "The Bachelor."
