Maraku's Story
Chapter 1: Spirited Away
Angel: I figured I couldn't do a story about Niroku without making one for Maraku. That just wouldn't be fair. So, I decided to do one for her. It will be written simultaneously with Niroku's side of the story. If you haven't read it, I'd advise going back and reading it. You'll be lost if you don't. Now, listen carefully. I don't own anyone but Niroku and Maraku, so don't sue! Now the story begins.
Nervously, Kagura lifted one of Naraku's eyelids to ascertain if he was still unconscious. Or, rather, if she was, the Wind Sorceress remembered.
Kagura still wasn't clear on the details, but it seemed that her master had gotten drunk at the village tavern and then met up with the monk Miroku. Thinking Naraku was a woman, the pervert made his famous and infamous proposition, and the hanyou had been drunk enough to shapeshift female and accept. Naraku had walked away from the impromptu tryst pregnant.
Now the baby was newly born, or, to be more precise, both of them were. Instead of the one they had expected, there were two, a boy and a girl. Twins. It was an old superstition that twins were bad luck, Kagura recalled. She didn't envy the little ones that.
An idea began forming in her mind. What if no one ever found out there were twins? No one knew now. One of them might be killed, anyway, to negate the curse. No one would know or care if she spirited one away to train her way. But if Naraku ever found out… Her hand went instinctively to the place her heart should have been. Don't think of that, she told herself fiercely. I won't let him find out.
Before her courage could give out, she picked up the elder, the girl, and crept to her room. The baby watched her with intelligent, silvery-amethyst eyes, looking calm and slightly amused. This one didn't cry, Kagura remembered. Well, I can't take the chance.
She pulled a small wooden box out of a fold of cloth in her kimono, took out a pinch of greenish powder, and pried the child's mouth open. To Kagura's surprise, she offered no resistance. Kagura dropped the powder in, and the infant was asleep in seconds.
"Kagura?" a small, whispery voice wafted in from the darkness of the hallway.
"Go away, Kanna!" Kagura snapped. "This doesn't concern you!"
"You took one of the children. Naraku won't be happy," Kanna warned.
"He won't find out. Don't you dare tell him. Anyway, the girl would probably be killed when they found out there were twins."
Kanna was silent a moment, considering. "Yes. I won't tell."
"Kagura, come here now!" an all-too-familiar voice ordered.
Sighing, the Wind Sorceress swept out to answer her master's summons.
To Be Continued…
Angel: Hmmm… Wonder how this one's going to end up. Seriously, in most of my stories, I have no idea what's going to happen until it does. It's surprising me as much as it is you. Now, please press the purple button below and review!
