Author's note: I own nothing.
Twilight and shadow…
How sweetly they sing…
Lost, is all the glory…
Faded, is the king…
Oh twilight and shadow deeper,
Than any bonds of man may lie…
They span the hands of all our triumphs.
And linger as we die…
Linger as we die…
How my proud heart is weeping,
At the midnight in my eye.
That swallowed all my hopes and dreams…
That murdered all that purely gleamed…
Softly in the twilight, the Elves we hear cry,
Away we sail, away we sail!
Saved from all, to the west we fly!
And the gulls that span the ocean shore send out their piercing cry.
They seem to scream, they seem to ask,
And I?
And I?
My kind, we scream as well.
We scream to those who cannot sail,
The men and dwarfs lost in this tale
the wind, and its lonely, icy wail.
My kind, we scream with anger; at ourselves, the dead, the mist and sky…
We Scream in shadow, scream in shame,
Scream before the Eye…
Scream till we can scream no more…
Our throats are far to dry…
Scream till dawn. At twilights end,
Scream in pain, …yet still we serve.
And by and by…
The scream turns into laughter…
We never meant to slave ourselves!
As servants to an eye!
One need not wonder the how, the why… it was all a lie,
It had always been a lie…
We took the gifts of Annatar,
We followed, listened, heard,
He promised us so many things…
we believed each word…
I shall place you all, above all else!
No glory too great! No ambition too high!
I only ask you follow me,
And never,
Will you die.
Never will we die? There, the choice was made.
Proud, and fallen, and afraid.
...I was once a king of men, and now I breathe no more…
He was once a loyal friend, what did he battle for?
They were once the pride of man, and see how far they fall,
Swallowed into darkness, lost themselves and all…
Twilight and shadow…
How sweetly they sing…
Lost, is all our glory…
Sauron, is our king.
