Notes: This is set after the episode "Absolute Power". I haven't seen that episode (or indeed, written for Stargate) in a long time, so please excuse any inaccuracies. I wrote it for someone on the LiveJournal community ficondemand. :) And if you don't like Jack/Daniel slash, you'd be advised to go back and reread the summary of this story to remind yourself that I warned you, and then get the hell away.
Daniel sat up in bed, staring at the wall. He couldn't stop thinking about it, the way he'd acted... hadn't acted. Whatever. What if... No, Jack was right. He shouldn't think about it too much. It'd drive him mad to think about it for too long, turning it this way and that in his mind.
He swung his legs out of bed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and raking his fingers through his hair to neaten it, taking a deep breath. He found his shoes, slipped them on. They had a mission early the next day, he really should be sleeping, but... He got up, slipped out of the room quietly. He didn't like sleeping on base. It always made him restless, and reminded him of the dream, the absolute intoxicating power he'd had... the way he'd Ienjoyed/I it all.
"I thought I told you to stop thinking about it," Jack said quietly, startling him. He hadn't expected anyone else to be up, but perhaps it was to be expected...
"I wasn't, I mean, I was trying not to think about it, anyway." Daniel shivered a little, the air was just a little cold, that was all. Jack came closer to him, a slightly annoyed expression on his face. He could feel the warmth of Jack's body seeping through the air between them.
"You think too much," he said with a snort. He watched Daniel shiver for a few minutes, and noted that it wasn't Ithat/i cold. "You wouldn't have done all that shit really."
"Maybe I always wanted that, though." Daniel felt he had said that before, shutting his eyes after he'd dropped that into the sudden silence.
"Daniel," Jack said, insistently, "That's bullshit." He put a hand on Daniel's arm, squeezed tightly trying to get through to him, and pulled him a little closer so their body heat combined warmed the space between them. "You're a good man, and you wouldn't do that. Hell, that'd be Imy/I thing. Using Goa'uld technology to defend Earth... you know I don't give a damn what we use as long as it works. You're the one always caught up in the morals."
"I liked doing it though." Daniel's voice wavered just a little, shivering once more, not really from the cold.
Jack drew Daniel closer, into a tight embrace. His voice was unusually soft in his effort to comfort. "'Absolute power corrupts absolutely', remember? It wasn't your god damned fault, Daniel! Stop blaming yourself."
Daniel leaned into Jack, just for a moment, just a little. "Thanks," he said. And as the moment in Jack's arms lengthened, he added, "I will." Not 'I'll try' this time, but 'I will'.
"You will," Jack repeated softly. "You know, Danny, I trust you. So if you ever end up doing that in reality... remember that I trust you to be a good boy, okay? Don't let me down."
He snorted softly. "Next time you get the urge to spout cheesy lines, don't, Jack."
Jack affected a hurt expression, but a smile glimmered through. "How about the even more cheesy scene where I tell you I love you and trust you and please don't do something like that to us in reality?"
"Don't even go there," Daniel warned, but he was smiling. He leaned against Jack a little more and Jack kissed him, and he wasn't shivering anymore, and Jack's body heat leaking through to his own skin was very pleasant. And then Jack pulled him closer and before he knew it, they had moved into the room where Jack was sleeping and he was on the bed, and no dream of having absolute power would ever reach him there...
