Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy the vampire Slayer.
A/N: A squeal of sorts to Into the Mist. But not, this is Spiffy, unlike the other.
The GameI've always been one for big entrances. But you knew that already. So when I head that one of them was in Rome I started to plan. Planning has never really been my thing, but I really, really wanted this to turn out the way that I wanted. Angel was in Rome, and I was going to get him back. One way or another. Of course there are rumors that the other one is here too, the dead one. The one I gave up on. I wonder why he's here, when he's dead. Gone and dead in Sunnydale, the place where my heart lies.
I stare at the city of Rome, the city of lovers. I know in my heart that this will be the final battleground. I turn from my window to find The Immortal ready for me, ready for us to leave, "Let's go my love."
It takes a while but when we get to the club I can tell that they are there, waiting for me. Knowing what my challenge is. I think I rigged it. So that he would win, and I think that the dead one knows that. Knows that I've rigged it. Knows that I want him to win, and his soul cries because of it.
When we are at the club music pours around us. And the Immortal on takes my hand starts to dance with me. We are into our second song when the dark one strikes. And I see the shock on The Immortals face. The how and why I would do this, when I had told him I love him. The crowd goes silent. And no one talks. Time stops and the two vampires start to fight. And I watch. It is only later, after it all, when I come to understand what is going on. My beloved is losing. And the Immortal one is going to win; when he steps in. And I can hardly hold my breath, he doesn't even look at me, he only talks to The Immortal, "You should stop. It's not worth it."
The Immortal looks up, "What?"
I know where this is leading. And the dead one know it's too, he's been in this situation before, "I know what she's doing. She using you, trying to figure out which of us is better for her. Stop it. I've been there before."
He turns to leave and I watch as the Immortal one, enraged turns and charges him. And my breath catches in my throat. There is dust everywhere, and I can't tell who's. It's only when the dust clears that I see that The Immortal is dead. For the dead one stands there, stake out. And I run to him, game over, he looks at me, "Of course, it did lead to great things. So who am I to complain."
I suppose I broke Angel's heart that day. But the game had been won, and as to the victor goes the spoils. And when I look back on it I come to realize that he never did make a big entrance. He just came and was there, something that I wasn't used to.
Something that I really don't care about any more, because hey, I can settle for the little entrances too.
