I adore the game Beyond Good & Evil. It's an awesome game. This little ficlet happens when the Alpha-Sections destroy the lighthouse and kidnapp the kids at the shelter in Jade's absence.
May contain spoilers. Also, the code I mention is not the actual one. I made it up.
Disclaimer: I do not own Beyond Good & Evil.

"What were you thinking? That you could really make a difference? No boy…"
Jade blinked, fighting down the tears that were threatening to roll down her cheeks. The wind was chilly, and the sun was high in the late afternoon sky.
Woof whined. The fat, white haired dog rubbed his black nose against her arm, trying desperately to help his mistress. He was somewhat oblivious to her harsh words, her heart overcome with the loss of all of those she hold close to her heart.
Pey'j was kidnapped. Then the lighthouse destroyed and the children taken as prisoners…Pablo, Fehn…Zaza…
She hiccupped silently, but still refused to let the tears fall. She never cried. She had to be strong.
Strong for what?
The fight against the DomZ and the Alpha sections, it was all…useless… All for nothing…That man was right…they take everything away from you…
She couldn't fight anymore. She just couldn't.
She wasn't speaking those words to Woof. She was talking to herself.
"Did you really think you were really making a difference?" she said again, harshly slapping herself inwardly, ignoring Woof's whines.
Did you really think?…It was too much. Jade was strong. But sometimes things just piled up on your back, causing your heart to give out.
A single, shiny tear fell down her face, but she hastily wiped it away, stubbornly berating herself. No crying. She couldn't cry.
"Miss Jade, we have to keep on. They are all alive. We can still save them!"
"It's over, Double-H…It's over…" she could hear herself explain.
Jade looked sideways from where she was sitting at the ex-soldier. He didn't lose anyone. How could he even mention continuing? Anger and violence burned inside of her, but was dissipated at a new, serene thought.
Maybe he did lose someone…Who? He was the best agent of Iris…possibly one of their first…what could've convinced him to join?
Double-H was not in the burned down entrance of what was the children's room when she looked at him again. Had she missed something he said?
She got up slowly.
She had to be strong. This wasn't the time to go down. She had to bring back the kids home. She had to save Pey'j.
She looked up at the wall in front of her, and saw the second poster with the blueprint of Pey'j's shoes on them. Getting up, she walked over to the poster, Woof looking silently after her.
She was going to save them.
She was going to save them.
Pushing the board slightly, she watched entranced as the poster slipped sideways, giving access to a machine with a four letter and number code on it.
She saw Double-H as he looked at her, filled with a new, desperate hope. They were going to do this. The DomZ would not win.
Jade looked at the shoes Pey'j had left behind, and prepared to enter the second code.
Let's see…K…7…G…4…
