Author's Notes: This story starts five years before the beginning of the movie. Kemper is 17, Andy is 16, and both Morgan and Erin are 14. Right now Pepper isn't a part of it, but I might write her story later. If you have any questions just ask in the review and I'll do my best to answer. Enjoy!

The Way We Were

Chapter 1

August 18, 1968

Lillie Johnson impatiently tapped her foot as her ex-boyfriend, Kemper Porter, worked under his latest toy. And he wondered why he couldn't keep a girlfriend, actually knowing Kemper he was probably wondering why he wasn't getting laid, "When I said that I wanted to talk to you in person, I meant all of you," She lashed out, her voice conflicted with different emotions. Did he have to make this any harder on her?

However, he didn't exactly get it, "But I thought that this was your favorite part of me?" He joked, his voice muffled from under the old clunker, "Do you remember that one time-"

He'd gone too far. He'd crossed the line. This was too much. Her smoldering temper boiled over on to Kemper and anyone in shouting distance.

"Get your worthless ass out from under that damn worthless piece of junk!" She bellowed and Kemper rolled out, rather offended, from under that piece of junk.

She had a lot of nerve. He climbed off the board and into a sitting position. A whole lot of freakin' nerve. He stood up and wiped his hands on a nearby orange oil rag.

"What's your problem?" He angrily asked her.

"You're my problem," She stated, steam practically gushing from her ears, she was so pissed, "I'm pregnant," And then she stormed down his driveway, leaving him shell shocked.

He took off his ever-present baseball cap and ran a hand through his black curls. This wasn't happening. He got back down on his board and slid back under the car. He had to think.
