Neville's Date
It was snowing in Hogsmeade. The street was full of shoppers, doing their Christmas shopping. The weather was so cold that most of them were wearing earmuffs, scarves or windbreakers.
Neville Longbottom stood alone outside the Three Broomsticks, wearing a brown jacket. His dark hair was ruffled by the wind. His cheeks were pink with cold. He looked among the crowd, occasionally stood on tiptoe to search for someone. He took out a small mirror from his pocket and looked at his reflection. Seeing that his hair was as messy as Harry's, he quickly took out a comb and ran it through his hair. He put his things away and continued to wait. He looked at his watch anxiously.
"Neville!" someone called.
Smiling, Neville turned. His smile vanished immediately.
Ron Weasley looked at him in bewilderment. "What's that look on your face?"
"Nothing." said Neville quickly.
"What are you doing here anyway?" asked Ron.
"Err… I'm just… bored." said Neville, not looking directly at Ron.
"Well then, why don't we go to Zonko's?" asked Ron.
"No!" said Neville sharply.
Ron raised his eyebrows.
"I, I mean, I, um, I can't. I…" Then Neville muttered something that Ron couldn't hear.
Ron leaned forward. "What?"
"I'm… waiting for someone." said Neville slowly.
"Who?" asked Ron curiously.
"Err… um…" said Neville, looking at every direction but not at Ron's.
Ron stared at him before his brown eyes widened. "Oh, I get it now. You are dating a girl, right?"
Neville suddenly looked at him in horror.
"Jackpot." Ron sang. "So who is it? Anyone we know? Surely not Hermione, Harry will kill you if you go out with her. And please don't tell me it's Luna, or I myself will kill you."
Neville swallowed nervously. "You… don't know her. She's not from Hogwarts."
"Oh." said Ron and he looked around. "Have you seen Ginny around?"
"No! Why should I? I mean, how could I? I mean…" started Neville quickly.
Ron narrowed his eyes. "I saw her wearing her favourite jacket, combing her hair and putting on makeup this morning."
"She did?" asked Neville.
Ron nodded and frowned. "She must be going out with someone again. And you know me, Neville. I don't like it when she is going out with a boy. She's too young to go out."
Neville laughed nervously. "So I noticed."
"I swear that if I see her walking around with a boy, that boy is going to pay for it." said Ron darkly.
Neville looked pale. "Err, Ron, don't you have anywhere else to go?"
"No," said Ron. "I think I will stay here and see who your date is."
Neville shook his head frantically but Ron didn't notice.
Ron leaned on the window beside him and looked around. Neville looked at his watch. 2pm. His date would be here any minute and Ron…
"Err… Ron, I think… I, err, see Ginny with Dean at Honeydukes just now." said Neville, crossing his fingers behind his back.
Ron jumped up and glared at Neville. Neville backed away, Ron looked angry enough to kill. "Dean? Are you sure?"
"Um, yeah." said Neville quietly.
Ron gritted his teeth. "I thought Ginny broke up with him ages ago! He's going to get it from me. How dare he go out with my sister!" he roared.
Ron started a few steps away from Neville. Neville sighed in relief.
Ron suddenly turned andNeville jumped in fright.
Ron smiled at him. "Thanks for the info, mate. I won't tell Ginny and Dean that it's you who inform me about them."
"Err, okay."
Ron stormed off.
"I better prepare my will." muttered Neville to himself. "Ron will kill me if he finds out whom his sister is really going out with."
