Chapter 4

*~* Hiei's POV *~*

A curse. A curse of one's very blood. Much like my own curse, and yet, they are a world of difference apart. Both of our blood sets us apart from our brethren. I, as a fire youkai born to an ice apparition, cast out of my birthplace, and she, a shape-shifter... A princess? with poison for blood, causing deathly pain at her every waking moment... Even I can sympathize for this girl...

Kurama and I freed the captured ningens and returned them to their precious ningenkai. The detective and the moron went "home", as well as Kurama. I have found a suitable tree to rest in for a while. I usually stay at Kurama's house. Perhaps I am beginning to see why he likes that ningen he calls "mother". She is very... kind... yes, that would be the word. She often buys sweet snow, "Just for you, Hiei-kun," she says. I don't know if I truly like that suffix, but it seems friendly, not like she's looking down on me, making fun of me. She never asks about the bandana I always wear to hide my Jagan. I think that's why I like her. She doesn't ask me questions.

Anyway, I'm just in this tree to think... That girl, Lani. She was a youkai, I think... "Princess?", "The royal plague"? What was that demon talking about?

Koenma- 'Hiei? I'm calling a meeting regarding your previous mission. Please report to my office immediately.'

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei all submitted their reports on the mission, and reported all known deaths and casualties occurring during the mission.

Koenma- "Alright, thank you. You may leave."

Yusuke- "Hey! Isn't Lani here? Doesn't she need to report?"

Koenma- "She already submitted her report." he said shortly.

Yusuke- "When?!"

Koenma- "She sent a messenger with a written report. if you are so eager to see her again, you may deliver my letter to her."

Hiei- "Yes, thank you." Everyone stared at Hiei's response. "thank you" was not a common phrase that anyone had heard from Hiei.

Koenma- ::ahem:: "Yes, well. Here" He handed a large package to Hiei. "The contents of this package are for Lani's eyes only. Don't give this to anyone but her." He pressed a button on his desk and Botan entered. "Botan, take them to the portal to Lani's castle. Please have the castle guards notified that hey have a package for her Highness, the Princess. Be polite as possible, boys." He said as the detectives followed the blue-haired ferry woman out of the room.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The boys exited the portal to find themselves directly in front of a huge drawbridge: the front gate of what looked like a giant medieval castle. A guard shouted down to them from the guard tower.

Guard- "Who art thou?! And who hath sent ye?" Kurama looked up and answered him.

Kurama- "We are messengers from Lord Koenma! He wishes to send his regards to Milady the Princess!"

Guard- "Then his regards shall reach her lovely ears. I shall deliver the message myself!"

Kurama- "We have a letter for her Ladyship!"

Guard- "i shall come down and get it." Hiei stepped forward, his face emotionless.

Hiei- "Lord Koenma gave us specific directions to deliver his letter to the Lady, personally."

Guard- "....... All right. As you wish." he turned to call up to the gatekeeper, "OPEN THE GATES!!!!!!" The drawbridge lowers and the four boys walk in.
The small village surrounding the true castle structure was quiet. The villagers all stared at the boys as they walked through. Every one of the demons looked tired and scared. The detectives entered the front gates of the castle, only to be met by a bustling, fussy-looking, very proper female demon. She had black hair, which was tied up into a tight bun at the back of her head, dark brown eyes, pointed ears and a large black dress, sown in medieval style. She looked rather old, for a demon, at least.

Lady- "Yes? How may I--- oh, you must be the boys with the letter for the Princess, no? Very well. I shall go check on her and make sure that she is presentable. You there!" She called to a petite girl, simply clad in a grey frock with a small tat of lace at the neck and a bleached apron covering the front, presumably a maid. "Take these four gentlemen to the kitchens. They must be hungry. After they have eaten, bring them to Her Highness, the Princess's room. I shall be there waiting. Understood?" The maid bowed deeply to her and then to the four boys.

Maid- "Yes Milady. Please, follow me, sirs."

Chapter End!!!!!

So, anyone like it? Yeah, I changed the title, I am really sorry to all the people confused by that, if there were any. I just didn't think many people were understanding "Aishiteru", and I was starting to think I didn't spell it right... Oh well, Ja ne, Yuffie.
