At Rivendell before During the Fellowship of the Ring

Disclaimer: I don't own Lord of the Rings or any of the characters

Merry and Pippin sat together giggling. Legolas was, as usual, very interested in what could possibly cause laughter like that. He walked over and planted himself cross-legged on the floor opposite the young hobbits.

"Would you share with me your amusement my good hobbits?"

Merry and Pippin looked at each other with raised eyebrows. Merry gave Pippin a nod that said "follow my lead."

"Well, I had just stolen Pippin's nose, I have given it back now!"

"Hobbits can remove their noses?"

"It's not the nose that is special, it's Merry. He has some magic in him!"

Legolas managed to look both wide-eyed with wonder and skeptical at the same time.

Merry reached over and tweaked Legolas' elegant nose. "There, now I have your nose."

Legolas gaped "How?"

"Magic!" Merry smirked. "Here Pippin, catch." He said as he tossed his hand and released his fist. A moment later Pippin clasped shut his hand rather loudly.

Legolas jumped up, "I demand you return my nose!"

Pippin and Merry began to play keep away with Legolas and his detached nose.

Frodo, Sam, and Bilbo were sitting a little bit off from this scene.

"I've never seen a game of got-your-nose last so long," Bilbo chuckled.

"Especially with a person over the age of two!" Frodo smiled.

Sam just shook his head thinking "perhaps elves aren't as perfect as he had once believed"
