Mother's Day
By: Heishi
The trees outside were full of life as Reni sat on the bench outside of the theater. The fountain gave the scenery a calm feeling in which anyone would fall under its spell. Reni looked around as she felt she spring winds gently kiss her face.
Reni looked up and watched as the clouds floated in the deep blue ocean that was the sky. There was something about today that made Reni feel calm and yet sad at the same time. It was then Reni seemed to remember the fountain and transferred her gaze towards it. Forcing her legs to guide her towards the fountain she then looked into the clear water. Sitting near the waters edge Reni lowered her hand into the water. Like a soft glass the water embraced her hand.
The water felt soothing and had a sense of happiness in it. As the water gently rippled Reni looked at her reflection. It was at that moment Reni saw herself only different. She looked older and her hair longer. The water seemed to unlock deep memories which had been forgotten from the years of time that had passed by. The person Reni saw then smiled. It was a sweet smile that reminded Reni of water lilies.
"Lily…Lily…" Why did that name sound so familiar to Reni?
"Mother…" Reni thought. What a strange word it was.
A Long Time Ago…
A small child crawled on the grass after a small white puppy. A woman watched over the small child a smile dancing on her face. She then arose from her seat the wind blowing her dress. Walking over she picked the small child up.
"Reni, are you having fun?" The woman asked her voice as sweet as candy.
"Lily? Lily are you here?" Someone's voice called out.
"Over here darling!" The woman called out.
A man walked over his face clouded in Reni's memory.
The small child smiled reaching out to the man who was her father. The man smiled as he took his daughter into his arms.
"I'll be home late tonight so make sure Reni stays out of trouble." The man said with a smile.
The woman whose name was Lily smiled and giggled a bit. Although she was a mature woman she had a childish aura about her.
"Don't worry she won't be in any trouble, now Reni say goodbye to daddy while he goes to work!"
The small Reni smiled and gave a childish giggle.
It was later on that day that Reni's mother started to put out the laundry so as the fresh spring winds could dry them out. Lily looked down at Reni and smiled. Walking over she held her child.
"Today is a very special day Reni, do you want to know why?"
Reni looked up at her mother.
"Because without you today would mean nothing reni, because without you I wouldn't be a mother."
End
Reni looked at the fountains water. Lily…her mothers name…
It was then Reni herd voices. Sakura and the others were coming out.
"Wow what a beautiful day!" Sakura said.
"Yes especially sense its Mother's Day!" Iris said with a smile.
Reni looked at the others as they all smiled. Looking one more time she saw her mothers reflection smile at her before it disappeared.
"Reni!" Iris called out as she waved to Reni.
Reni slowly lifted her hand and looked at the others. It was then everyone stopped….
Upon Reni's face was a smile as pure as a flower. A smile that Reni had received from her mother….a smile she would always remember.
The End
