Essence of Kunoichi

She's right there.

They don't always see her, of course, but she's right there.

She always is.

She's the part of themselves that they hate the most. She's the part of themselves that they know they don't need. And yet, she's the part of themselves that they simply can't kill off.

She's so weak.

She's indestructible.

And she's right there, always there, hidden in the shadows of age-old instinct. And she says she's going to make something of herself, someday, and they know she never will.

She's their lover, their best friend, their worst enemy. Their weakness and their strength. She's not a person or a thing; she's an emotion, an appearance. She's a skin. She's the web that connects them and the wall that keeps them apart. And they've come to accept her, all the same.

She is invisible.

And they never wonder if she likes it that way.

The phrase 'mass-production' comes to mind...
