-Time-

Time. It slips through your fingers like flour through a sieve. You can't slow it down, can't change it. It looms ever closer, it's here, it's gone into the receding past, never again to be bodily revisited.

These sentiments mostly hold true in the wizarding world, except for one: time can be revisited. But with a price, alas; one cannot be seen, nor can one change what has already come to pass.

This property of magic is particularly useful when rescuing condemned hippogriffs and saving godfathers from dementors and rabid government officials. It is also helpful in getting from class to class.

It is also extremely frustrating, this, knowing that one can't have applied it to a dire situation; one could not, because that would alter the fabric of time. Dire situations such as touching the cup when it was a Portkey to Lord Voldemort. Or when watching your godfather die at the hands of his cousin. Those would have been exemplary times to use such wonderful resources.

But do not rant and rave that time is a harsh, cruel mistress when it has its uses. Without time, we would be stuck in the same moment for all eternity. With time, we are hurled at complicated situations every moment of every day. With time, we are given the chance to make history, meet new people, create romances and friendships. With time also comes wisdom, wrinkles, and the Grim Reaper. Yes, time brings death. To us all, not just to a select few. No one goes 'before their time'. Their time is precisely whenever they die.

It is still a tragedy to us when the elderly die, yet it is somehow easier to grasp the concept of them no longer in this world. But when younger generations perish, we simply cannot believe that we will no longer meet them. Hear his barking laugh, see his devilish grin, smell his musty smell, feel his large paws batting at your feet. Never meet the the only true link to your past. In time those wounds will scar. Never leaving, but not at the forefront of your emotions.

Sometimes time does as it should, sometimes it doesn't. Let us hope that time works out in your favor.
