Chapter One: A Glance

The university grounds were faintly illuminated by the large crescent moon. Stars twinkled in the dark night sky, strengthening the moonlight. Trees cast vague shadows on the pebbly gray paths. Summer night flowers opened their pale petals, exuding a dainty aroma. A large fountain bubbled softly under a weeping willow in the center of the grounds. Towering into the sky was Azumano's bell tower. Ten majestic chimes rang throughout the courtyard- 10 o'clock.

Light spilled out onto the concrete path as the gym doors flew ajar. Nelia Arya walked briskly down her path, breathing in the welcome scent of the open night air. Anything was better than smelling the stale odor of air sanitizers that accompanied the gym. She pushed her sweaty black locks away from her flushed face as she examined a flyer given to her by one of her brothers that she was training with.

"'Don't miss the traditional battle. Azumano University vs. Tokyo Academy. Guest appearances by General Anthony, General Hector, and all other previous officers.'" Nelia read aloud. Her voice was musical, though slightly tired. "'Watch the new General his army defeat TA for the first time in 10 years. Support Azumano U.' Who would actually want to watch a bunch of students wave swords around for sport?"

Still grumbling to herself, Nelia walked towards her dormitory. Eventually she fell silent as she began to harken to a nightingale's song. A breeze slowly blew through the grounds, cooling her as she strolled along. When nearing the fountain, a strong gust pulled her flier out of her loose grip. It began to float away spiraling towards the fountain and landed neatly on the pool's edge. Through the spray that obscured her view, she saw a shadowy shape bending over her flier. The nebulous figure looked up at her as she approached. A student she thought to herself as she spotted the university's uniform. Her breath caught in her throat as the student began to survey her coolly through two brilliantly blue bespectacled eyes.

"Nelia," a voice said, jerking her out of the trance those two hypnotizing seemed to have put her in.

"Mm? What is it, Anthony?" she asked her brother as he headed towards her.

"Nothing. I just wanted to walk you to your dorm," he answered, taking her arm.

"Okay," Nelia said softly. She looked around to see where the mysterious student had gone. There was no trace of him anywhere. As her brother pulled her along, talking about something to do with swords and the fight at Tokyo Academy, she glanced back toward the fountain. Her flier had disappeared.

Under the coverage of the weeping willow, Satoshi Hikari, or Hiwatarti as he was about to become, quietly watched the girl and her brother walk away as he wrote something down on a little notebook. Snapping it shut, he placed it in his breast pocket along with Nelia's flier before disappearing into the shadows.
