Kairi lay on the sand of Destiny Island staring at the clouds, making a flower necklace out of daisies. Her mind was drifting from Selphie, her friend who couldn't stop talking. Selphie was a nice friend but didn't really seem to care about much than what was happening on the island. Tidus was dating that Raven-Simone girl up in the high rises. Wakka was planning a big celebration for his 20th birthday, and she needed just the right dress. Kairi sighed. It was only to be expected of course. She, in a sense never really left the island. Sure she had been catapulted to some weird world like everyone else, but she didn't go on any adventures. She didn't lose her heart and was dragged from world to world by the heartless. She wasn't forced to leave the one she loved, only after finally returning to herself. She wasn't forced to deal with the fact that for the rest of her life she could never love anyone else, for the boy that almost gave his life for her, whose hearts were still connected was forever gone.
Suddenly a flash of light soared across the sky. Kairi stood up and walked to the edge of the water
"What's wrong Kairi?" Selphie asked when she realized that Kairi was not listening to her anymore.
Kairi didn't respond. She just watched in horror as one by one the stars began to fall, and blink out.
Meanwhile, Sora looked out at the sea, but for a very different reason. They had news of a secret meeting from Merlin taking place here at Twilight Town that deeply involved them. Twilight Town had been their base camp since their last adventure at Castle Oblivion, and they were enjoying a relaxing break at the world's fishing lodge where Goofy, unsuccessfully of course, was trying to teach them to fish, his way. Merlin had come out of nowhere explaining that something terrible had happened and they needed to go back to the town hall for an urgent meeting.
As they arrived at the city, they were greeted by a tumult of bewildered and frightened people frantically running around in endless circles at often pointing up in the air. Sora turned his gaze to the sky and glanced and his compatriots in shock. The stars that had only one year ago been returned to their positions in the sky were blinking out or falling. The three companions stared in awe, than bolted for the town hall to find the answer to the reason why the walls between the worlds were disappearing again.
