I was about to go sleep when I thought of this. Yet another angsty piece! I hate angst! Why do I have to write those well! Oh well...here we are.
Disclaimer: I don't own Wild Adapter or Executive Committee. If I did, they'd be the only manga that I've read in a long time where my favorite character doesn't DIE!
A loud bark brought Kubota out of his reverie. The former Izumo gang member was sitting on a bench in the middle of the park. He took his eyes off of the sky and slowly brought them down to the source of the noise. At his feet sat a large hairy dog. It was staring up at him, leash hanging from it's neck, drool dripping from it's open jaws and falling into a small puddle around it's paws. Kubota started to reach down to pet it, but was stopped by another noise. He looked back up to see a little girl running towards him.
"Kapi!"
Kubota wondered how her short little legs were carrying her so fast, and how her small voice box produced a yell that shrill and that loud. The girl slowed down into a brisk walk when she neared him and stopped next to the dog.
"Sorry mister, is Kapi bothering you?"
Kubota didn't reply right away, instead deciding to look over the girl first. She couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 judging by her appearance. She was fairly skinny, and had her black hair tied up in pigtails. The dead air must've made her nervous because she shifted a bit, moving her little foot back and forth on the ground. Kubota took this as a sign to reply.
"No...I like animals..."
The little girl seemed happy that he had said something, because her face lit up and she plopped down on the bench with him, holding the dogs leash that she had picked up off the ground. She stared at him with large eyes for a while, making him feel slightly uncomfortable. Finally she broke the silence that had once again settled down into the air.
"Do you have an animal?"
Kubota gave her his best fake smile.
"I used to have one..."
The girl cocked her head to the side a bit.
"What happened to it?"
He found it was a little difficult to get the words out.
"It died...it's organs ruptured." She stared at him blankly, obviously confused.
"It exploded." He watched the expression change on her face from curiosity and confusion to disgust.
"Ewwwwwwwww..." He nodded slightly, and thinking that she would run away after his blunt explanation, turned his head back up to the sky and stared into it.
He was startled from his thoughts when the little girl spoke up once more.
"What kind of animal was it?"
Finding it was too hard to smile anymore, he settled for staring down hoping that at least she wouldn't see the tears that had started to fall. he managed to reply, desperatly hoping it would be the last question she wanted to ask.
"...It was a cat..."
With those words he cracked, tears free flowing down his face and onto the ground, mixing with the puddle of drool that had not quite evaporated in the hot sun. Had he looked up he would've seen the little girl staring sympathetically at him. However he stayed with his head down, unable to say anything else, unable to think of anything else. Yet another sound came ringing through the park. A womans voice, soothing but firm.
"Rinko! Rinko! Hurry! Mama has to buy food for dinner!"
There was a slight scraping sound, and the jingling of a collar, and Kubota lifted his head to see the little girl standing in front of him.
"Sorry again mister. Sayonara."
She bowed quickly, and turned around with Kapi's leash in hand, running towards the woman who must've been her mother. He stared blankly in the direction that she went, even long after she had left. After a while he managed to choke his reply out.
"Aa...sayonara..."
Dude, that was symbolic! Hopefully you all got that. But anyways, there is something I hope never happens. Lets' hope! Anyways please review!
