A/N: Hi, this is my first fan fic and I really hope you all like it. If you like it please review and I'll post more of it! Constructive criticism is welcome (please!). Hope everybody enjoys the story!
Disclaimer: Not mine! I do not own Harry Potter, and unfortunately I never will. The song also isn't mine!
Song Fic to Wind Beneath My Wings
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
To never have sunlight on your face.
You've been content to let me shine,You always walked a step behind.
It was a crisp cold December morning and Severus Snape was making his way through the freshly fallen snow to the edge of the Forbidden Forest as he had done so on this day every year for the past 11 years, ever since the first anniversary of the day that the Dark Lord had been defeated. That day had brought so much joy to the rest of the Wizarding world but it had been the worst day of his life, it was the day he had lost her.
I was the one with all the glory,
While you were the one with all the strength.
Only a face without a name,
I never once heard you complain.
While Dumbledore, Harry and the rest of the Order of the Phoenix had prepared for battle they had worked punishing hours in the potions lab hoping to find something, anything that would give them an advantage in the final showdown.
Working in such close quarters had resulted in a close relationship. He wasn't sure when it had happened, but he fell in love with her, Hermione Granger - the bushy haired Gryffindor know-it-all. Not that he told her he loved her, he thought that they would have time for that when He Who Must Not Be Named was defeated.
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
And everything I'd like to be.Well I can fly higher than an eagle,
But you are the wind beneath my wings.
In the years since his main regret was that he had never told her that he Loved her. He had planned to when he returned from the battle, but she wasn't there. Hermione had stayed at Hogwarts while the rest of the Order of the Phoenix went off to battle the Dark Lord. She had been severely weakened while creating a potion to help defeat the Dark Lord and it had been decided that she would be too great a risk on the battlefield.
It might have appeared to go unnoticed,But I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth,
I would be nothing with out you.
After Potter had fulfilled the prophecy by defeating the Dark Lord, Severus had rushed back to Hogwarts to her, but when he got to her rooms, they were empty. There were signs of a struggle and most of her belongings were destroyed.
No trace could be found of her anywhere in the castle. None of the paintings knew what had happened to her or where she had gone.
In the weeks after the last battle no sign of Hermione was found. Finally the Ministry of Magic declared her dead and a small memorial to her was erected on the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
And everything I'd like to be.I can fly higher than an eagle,
But you are the wind beneath my wings.
It was to this memorial that Severus was headed, it was the one place where he still felt close to her, where he still felt that there was hope that she could somehow return to him, for after all her body had never been found.
Reaching the memorial he transfigured a rock into a bench and sat down, he proceeded to talk to the memorial as though it were Hermione, telling it as he had done every previous year that he loved her.
You are the wind beneath my wings.
A/N: I have some ideas for continuing this. Please review if you want more!
