Under the Moon

One of the few memories he has of his haha-ue is her whispery voice, like the wind moving a thick cluster of blossoms in a wisteria tree, telling him that he looked most innocent when he was sleeping. All people are that way, she said. It is in the bliss of dreamless sleep that we attain this serenity. It is a time when our lines of worry, our drawn brows, our down-turned lips—she touched his face—become smooth and unmade.

Decades later, a girl with bright eyes and a brilliant smile set in a shining face asks him what he fears most. He kehs and does not answer.

He cannot answer.

He watches her sleep at night, wrapped in her modern blankets and her charge tucked snugly in her arms. Her face does not smooth into a carefree innocence. She does not look peaceful or content.

She looks most like Kikyou when she sleeps. When she sleeps, she looks lost. That is what he fears most of all.

A/N: ...I really want to put up something happy, too! XD But those last two sentences popped into my head, and I knew I had to write this. The title is once again a song sung by Do As Infinity by the same name. As with Yesterday and Today, I highly recommend looking up these songs and playing them, as they fit very well with their respective pieces, I think. Sort of like a mini-soundtrack. Anyway, as always, reviews are always appreciated, fawned over, and make the authoress smile! Anything you have to say that you think could be improved is wonderful, but of course, you don't have to spend five minutes of your time leaving a review or anything. :D Byebye
