Chapter 1: Dead of Night

"Legoshi, do you see that?" A female wolf pointed her finger behind her. A yellow sweater with a brown bottom dress covering her body. A small wolf with a red hoodie and light blue shorts stood on the train car chair to her right. He saw the waters of the ocean, orange their color, mirroring the sunsets gentle glow. The sun created stars in the ripples of water. His eyes sparkled like them as he smiled.

"Mom, it's beautiful!"

"Who taught you that word?" The woman giggled.

"Grandpa Gosha! He taught me it when we were talking about grandma." Legoshi answered happily, his tail wagging playfully. Leano looked at her child with soft eyes.

"Yes she was beautiful." Leano responded solemnly. Legoshi noticed the sadness in his mother's eyes.

"You're beautiful too, mom!" Legoshi said brightly, his hand on his mother's cheeks. He lifted them into a smile. Her eyes shined at the compliment and she felt both of her son's small soft hands. The boy felt the warmth of his mother's palms.

"Thank you Legoshi."

"No problem!" Legoshi smiled happily with his teeth showing bright. The purity of his features made Leano love her son even more. She began tearing up, eventually a few fell onto the seat of the train.

"Mom?"

"I'm sorry. I've just been a bit emotional lately. It's not your fault." Leano reassured her child.

She moved to clean her face but Legoshi's hands got to her eyes first, wiping them. He then tasted the tears.

"Legoshi! Don't do that!" Leano gently reprimanded her child. He just laughed in response.

"I thought it would stop you from crying and it worked!" Legoshi wiped the rest of his mother's tears on his jacket. "It tasted salty." Leano felt her son's face, looking to make sure there wasn't any sign of discoloration or swelling.

"I'm fine mom."

"O-of course you are." Leano returned her hands to herself. Legoshi sat down next to her, his eyes met with his mother's. His eyes were a beautiful dark gray and here's a pleasant black. Though one of her pupils had grown slightly smaller than the other.

"Legoshi, you're such a smart boy. You always know what to do when your mama is not feeling her best. I love that most about you." Leano held eye contact with her child.

"Can you promise mama something?" Leano asked, grabbing his son's hands.

"Promise me you'll keep growing and become big and strong. That you'll live a good life." Leano asked.

"I promise but only if you promise to stay with me!" Legoshi responded happily. Leano's mouth lost its ability to smile. Her heart sank at that request.

"Of course." Leano smiled through her pain and hugged her son close. They embraced bathing in each other's warmth for the most part with the sun cradling them the rest of the time. The moving train ran smoothly on its steel tracks. Legoshi closed his eyes, squeezing his mother tighter until she disappeared. He sat back in the seat alone on the moving train, a deafening silence crowded the car's empty space. The boy closed his eyes.

"Time to wake up Legoshi, it's time for school." Jack's voice rang through the silence and Legoshi awoke to the ceiling above his bed. He blinked before looking to his right.

"Morning, Legoshi. Did you sleep well?" Jack greeted his friend with a friendly smile. Legoshi simply rubbed his face and nodded. Then he rolled back to his left.

"C'mon Legoshi! We have to get to class!" Jack exclaimed happily. He pulled the green blanket off his friend.

"Jack, please give back my blanket."

"No can do. Time to take on the day with vim and vigor." Jack refused. He was already in his school uniform ready to attack the day.

"What? Have you been studying dialects from other countries, again?" Legoshi asked as he got out of bed.

"Maybe a little bit. They've got some really interesting stuff in their culture." Jack handed the blanket back to his friend who placed it carefully onto his bed.

"Where's everyone else?"

"They left already. I remember you saying your class doesn't start till eleven right?" Legoshi nodded in response. He then showered and got dressed in his school uniform.

"Alright, it's nine thirty. Ready?"

"Yeah I'm good." Legoshi agreed as he picked up his bag and opened the door for his friend to exit first. They left the dorms and got to the cafeteria before long. Jack talked more about what he learned about different cultures and Legoshi listened.

"Wait seriously? Sacrifices?"

"Crazy, right? That stuff freaks me out a little bit."

"Yeah, just a little." Legoshi agreed.

"Hey isn't there a play coming up in your club?" Legoshi silently nodded.

"You're not gonna be performing again are you?" The same reaction.

"What's it about anyway, it's a classic right?" The same reaction.

"Is something wrong? You're not acting like normal, tired Legoshi." Jack said.

"Yeah, I just had another dream about my mom. It's bugging me a little bit." Legoshi pushed his fork around in his food.

"Oh, sorry about that." Legoshi saw his friend's downed expression

"It's not your fault, the play is about the Adler. The Grim Reaper takes a girl on a journey to her final resting place."

"They start liking each other?"

"That predictable?"

"I've read it before. Actually I already knew what the play was about." Jack added with a grin.

"Then why did you ask?"

"To get you talking. Although, you don't seem too happy about the play." Jack responded.

"I'm a fan of tragedies and all but old ones always end the same way. I swear it feels like one person wrote all of them."

"That's not fair. All of them have different qualities." Legoshi rolled his eyes.

"I know but name me one tragedy that doesn't have one love interest die in the end."

"Challenge accepted." Jack began searching his mind. Legoshi took out his phone and timed him. After ten seconds Jack looked at Legoshi.

"Told you."

"I didn't say anything!"

"Exactly, so I win." Legoshi said laughing.

"I'm going to class. I'll find the answer by dinner tonight." Jack said, gathering his things.

"Don't worry, just text it to me. I'll be out tonight."

"Are you going back to see that panda again?" Jack questioned.

"Yeah."

"I keep telling you that you might get in trouble if the wrong person sees you!" Jack warned.

"You're right but no one goes by there, especially not herbivores. At worst Bill might show up and that's all. Don't worry about me Jack." Legoshi gave his friend a warm smile putting the labrador at ease.

"I trust you, I'm just worried." Jack pouted. Legoshi got up from his chair and patted his friend's head.

"I can always count on you." Jack enjoyed the head scratch. However, he slapped the hand away quickly.

"Stop that!" Jack's childish anger made his friend laugh.

"Let's get to class." Jack reluctantly followed his friend who'd gathered his tray and bag. On their way to classes they noticed a closed off auditorium.

"What happened?" Legoshi asked.

"Renovations, maybe?" Jack suggested innocently.

"Really? I thought they just built it a few months ago. Can't be in disrepair already."

"Probably just some faulty wiring in the projector or something." Jack said with a look asking for confirmation from his friend. The wolf shrugged.

"Let's get going, your class starts soon." Jack unlocked his eyes from the auditorium and the two left.

"Have a good day." Jack said before entering his class. Legoshi waved to his friend before venturing down the hall. The halls were active and alive with conversation. Sounds of herbivores and carnivores bouncing off the walls with ease. Sun peeking through the endless row of windows. Legoshi hunched as he walked, avoiding everyone in his path. He was lost in thought for the most part, thinking of the things he had to do today. His dream, the play and schoolwork.

"I'm way too busy for my own good." Legoshi quietly sighed to himself. He made it to his first period class and checked his phone. It read ten fifteen, no one was in the classroom so he took his seat in the fourth row from the front and laid his head down. He looked out of the window to his left, the sun shining brightly. He felt a golden blanket surrounding him as he drifted in dreams.

Until he got shaken awake.

"Time for class Legoshi." Tao shook his friend gently. Legoshi raised his head and stretched before speaking.

"Morning Tao." The black panther grinned at the greeting.

"Morning to you too. Did you not sleep enough last night?"

"I wouldn't say that I'm just sleepy, I guess." Legoshi rubbed his eyes.

"Well be sure to stay up for the lecture today. You know how mad the professor can get when people fall asleep in class." Tao said with a warm smile. His refreshing expression made Legoshi feel more energized.

"Good morning everyone! Please take your seats!" A horse walked into class with a black suit and red tie on. He placed down his things and every student raised their heads to pay attention. Legoshi took a notebook, pencil and eraser out of his bag. He listened intently to the lecture, one of many for the day. Luckily for him they broke for lunch right after the class.

Legoshi arrived at the cafeteria and got into the closet line. He quickly noticed that no herbivores in the line or around him for that matter.

"Hey, what's going on? There aren't any herbivores in this line." Legoshi whispered to the fox in front of him.

"Haven't you heard?" The fox turned his head. "There was a devouring, I heard it's that alpaca from the drama club." Legoshi recoiled at that information.

"What?"

"Yeah it's in the paper today. It just got released." The fox pointed to a stack of newspapers in between two metal prongs. Legoshi raced over to the rack and grabbed the top paper.

"No way." He read the top headline. A picture of Tem under the words which read: "Breaking News" Legoshi crumpled the paper in his hands. He felt a wave of sadness wash over him and a few tears fell from his muzzle, onto the paper. He wept for a few seconds before wiping his eyes. He tried to regain his composure but his body still shivered. His breaths were still shaky and his mind a bit hazy.

"Grow up big and strong." Legoshi repeated quietly to himself and breathed out. He then threw the paper into a nearby trashcan and got back at the end of the food line.

Legoshi felt at a loss. He never thought Tem would be killed, in a devouring no less. He could only think about one thing in relation to the matter. The carnivores in the school would be under heavy suspicion, yet none heavier than the drama club's carnivores. Legoshi swirled around that worry for the rest of the day. He hardly managed to eat his lunch or pay attention in the rest of his classes. Herbivores avoided him and other carnivores more than usual. A distinct divide appears in the classrooms and hallways. The herbivores stick to walls or a certain side of the classroom. Legoshi felt empty after the news about Tem, which only got worse once he arrived at the club room. He saw the carnivores and herbivores standing parallel to one another.

"All carnivores were suspected of being the killer." Ellen stated. Legoshi had come in mid-conversation.

"What the hell Ellen?! We would never hurt Tem, he was our friend!" Bill retorted, his anger apparent.

"You guys were the closest carnivores to him. How can we think of anyone else?!" Ellen responded with equal frustration.

"That doesn't mean you can just assume we did it!"

"He does have a point, Ellen. Anyone could've done it as bad as that sounds." Riz backed up the tiger.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night." Ellen remarked with a laugh.

"Exactly why I can't stand you, Ellen. You don't listen!"

"Oh you wanna fight?!" Ellen proposed to which Bill just laughed.

"Everyone please calm down! This isn't a time to be fighting with one another." Sanu interjected himself into the conversation. The two still bickered back and forth however. Legoshi watched this all unfold from the doorway without any concern. He just thought of Tem, then his mind wandered to the note in his late friend's locker.

"Excuse me." Louis spoke up from behind Legoshi. The wolf moved out of the way, all of the leaders in the drama club came with the red deer.

"That's enough everyone." Louis projected his voice throughout the entire room, disrupting the argument.

"We're all shocked by the news of Tem's death. I know it's hard to feel safe, especially when it's about a devouring." Louis looked at the carnivores lined up, eyeing Bill closely. "It can be quite hard to exist in a world where not everyone can control their primitive instincts."

"You got something you wanna say to my face Louis?" Bill questioned angrily.

"Well you're lively today. I wish you were lively like this in your previous performance. I guess the beast who roars loudest never has anything to show for it in the long run." Louis titled his head towards Bill in a condescending manner.

"Why don't you say that closer to my face?!" Bill stepped forward but Riz stopped him and shook his head.

"Louis! You're only making things worse." Sanu cautioned the deer.

"I suppose you're right, my apologies Bill." Louis' apology was clearly half-hearted. "Zoe, Legoshi. Come with me." Zoe hesitates for a moment. Legoshi lets out a light sigh and follows. Zoe then follows along as well. Sanu tells everyone to try and get back to their positions.

Louis, Legoshi and Zoe entered a small spacious room. It had a cabinet to the right of the door and a mirror to the left of the door. A small tv sat on a table on the other side of the cabinet. The electronic sat across from a chair but a table separated the two pieces of furniture. On top of the table sat a prop deer skull. Louis sat in the regal-looking chair with an air of entitlement. He crossed his legs.

"Zoe, did you bring the script I gave you after lunch?" Zoe shook his head.

"Could you please go and get it?" Zoe didn't move at the request. Louis titled his head to the left and looked at the goat. Then something clicked in the deer's brain, he got up and placed his hands on Zoe's mouth. He squeezed it, straining the goat's breaths.

"You ate it didn't you?"

"I'm sorry Louis!" Zoe's words barely made it out of his gritted teeth.

"You goat's seem only good for eating whatever you get your hands on." Louis' aggression made Legoshi uncomfortable.

"That's enough don't you think? He said he was sorry." Legoshi spoke up with a bit of anger. Louis let go of the goat and turned his attention to the wolf. He approached him. Legoshi's eyes lost their previous fire and his hair laid down again. Louis' smirked a bit as he felt triumphant over the carnivore.

"Go get Sanu to print you out another script. Don't eat it this time." Louis ordered Zoe who nodded nervously. He walked past Louis and Legoshi.

"Thank you." Zoe thanked the wolf quietly before leaving. Louis then sat back in his chair, the same bored expression returning to his face.

"You have the stagelight schemes don't you? Show them to me." Louis gestured for Legoshi to come closer with his hand. Legoshi pulls the plans from the bag on his shoulder and hunches over on Louis' right side. It was a small calm that lasted a few minutes before Kai bursted through the door. He was greeted by a sight that felt like a king speaking with their advisor.

"I told you to knock before entering, did I not?" Louis reminded the carnivore sternly.

"Why is he here? He's not an actor." Kai shook off Louis' question.

"This pup is helping me with the stage lights." Legoshi frowned at the comment.

"Also, you are correct he's not an actor but the two of you will be working alongside each other from now on. You've been removed from the actors' team and will be moved to the art department."

"What?" Kai reacted sorely to the information. Louis stood up and walked towards Kai.

"You can't be serious!" Kai's face was now painted with anger in one efficient stroke.

"Since you've been an actor your blunders have been quite major." Louis remarked.

"Spring Breeze, The Winter Safari and the end of the wave in the children's dance." Louis walked around the short mongoose. "Each one of those performances highlighted your failure as an actor. Not even minor mistakes." Louis leaned over the mongoose's shoulder. "But major slip ups." Louis spoke directly into Kai's left ear.

Legoshi notices Kai's fists tightened and his eyes go smaller. He didn't like the way Louis spoke either, still after things with Zoe he didn't know if he should intervene.

"You think with mistakes like that anyone would still want you in the actors' pool? You should've known that replacing Tem was far beyond your reach." Louis finished, never losing his stoic, arrogant demeanor. Kai snapped at that moment and swung at Louis, the deer turned to the attack. Legoshi grabbed the fist with his right hand.

"Don't attack the star. As stage hands we prop up the actors, so that's what you need to do too. Louis is the star so we need to make sure he shines.

"Stop talking down to me, you're just some psycho loner who's never touched the stage! So stay out of this!" Kai yelled. "If I wanted I could kick your ass right now!"

"Go ahead, see how it goes." Legoshi's grip tightened around Kai's wrist. The wolf's face lost its passive expression. Kai could feel the strength beginning to crush his wrist and his body began to feel fear. Legoshi let go of Kai at the sight of his face and the mongoose scurried to the door.

"I hate you rich kids! You'd better have someone watching your back till you die!"

"I will please leave before I report you." Louis warned. Legoshi felt a feeling of distaste build in his heart.

"On that note, I'm gonna go finish my work." Legoshi put on his uninterested facade once again. He grabbed his bag and headed for the exit.

"The aggression you showed is exactly what I expected from a carnivore. I suppose even you need to break that docile facade from time to time as well." Louis smirked, satisfied with his conclusion. Legoshi paid him no mind, walking away still. Louis then grabbed his tail between his fingers. Legoshi whipped his head around.

"Wait, I may need your help tonight." Louis started with a smirk still present on his face.

"I know you don't know but I'm not a fan of being touched by people I'm not comfortable with. So please let go." Louis silently obliged his request.

"Tonight, I want to do a rehearsal with Zoe to get him into shape for the performance in two days. We'll be using the gym." Legoshi raised an eyebrow.

"That's against school rules."

"Your role is the lookout. Now do you understand? I hope you're not gonna act like a goody two shoes about this." Louis' hand swiftly clutched Legoshi's tie. "Don't let me down. I bet if I offered you one of my legs you'd do it without issue." Legoshi gave Louis a look of disgust before lightly swatting Louis' hand away from his tie.

"You don't know me, so don't talk like you do. It's rude. Also, touching me includes my clothes. Taps on the shoulder are fine though." Legoshi straightened his tie while he spoke. "I'll help you. You're gonna have to wait till tomorrow night though. I've got something going on tonight." Legoshi still remained respectful despite Louis' arrogant behavior. "Have a goodnight. See you tomorrow." Legoshi left the room with that being said. Louis was left feeling both annoyed and curious, he wanted to remove the wolf's mask and see what lay beneath it. He wanted to expose the wolf for the real monster he knows he is.

Legoshi waved by to everyone in the clubroom before he remembered something.

"Els! I need to show you something!" Legoshi called the goat who looked a bit frightened at the proposal. Against her better judgment she followed him. He led her outside of the boy's locker room.

"Wait right here." Els felt a bit uneasy especially with no one around. The empty hall made her anxious, a quiet hollowing of silence echoing deep into her ears. The warm sunlight loudly filled the empty halls but even its presence felt muted. She thought about her options. She could run or pull the scissors from her bag. A few seconds had passed since Legoshi went into the locker room and her heart pumped loudly in her ears.

"Here you go." Els reeled back in defense, holding her hands up to her face. She opened her eyes and saw a letter being presented to her. It read from Tem, addressed to her.

"A letter?"

"Tem never got a chance to give to you. So I thought it best to give it to you in his place." Legoshi handed the letter to his clubmate. She opened it and read it, a smile came across her face. However, her mouth soon became a guilty frown.

"I'm sorry. I was wrong to think you came here to hurt me or…"

"It's okay I get it a lot anyway." Legoshi calmly responded.

"That doesn't make it okay. I'm really sorry Legoshi."

"Don't worry about it, seriously." Legoshi smiled earnestly at the goat.

"You can smile." Els laughed.

"Of course I can. I'm like everyone else!" Legoshi pouted. He then moved past Els.

"I have to get going. Have a good night." Els waved after the wolf who turned a corner and soon went down a hallway.

He exited the building to a dirt path he traveled down. Soon the path led to the school gates and he moved throughout the streets of the city. He checked his phone for the closest train station. He arrived at the closest train station within a few minutes and rode it to Arasaka station. Once he arrived he traveled down a relatively busy street, tall buildings and many beasts talking amongst themselves. Everything felt lively under the darkening sky. Legoshi moved down a dark alleyway and hopped a fence. He soon found himself in front of a lit up, densely populated area filled with carnivores. Many stands with food laid outstretched as far as the eye could see. Turns into dark alleyways past about every fifth stand without failure. Legoshi stood at the metal black arch that hung above his head, it was centered between two brick walls.

"It's always super uncomfortable coming back here." Legoshi thought to himself. He nose involuntarily dancing with the beautiful scents of the meats being cooked. He then took a deep breath and sniffed the air. He searched for a certain scent, one of a panda.

"Isolate his scent and ignore all others." Legoshi sniffed around, his eyes closed. He moved through the crowd seamlessly evading everyone. Their scents showed how far they were from him, he moved through like a dancer across a stage. His body flowed with the scent in the air, until he reached the clinic. Legoshi opened his eyes. A clinic towered several stories above the doors in front of him. The light illuminated the first floor. Legoshi entered through the two doors that stood in front of a lobby. He entered the elevator and went to the eleventh floor. He then walked down a short hallway to a bamboo green colored door. He pushed the doorbell.

"Hey, how was your day Legoshi?" A large panda bear opened the door with a cigarette in his mouth.

"It wasn't great. I'm sure you heard the news?" Legoshi asked. He moved past Gohin into the wide apartment. To his left several small monitors, in front of those two cushioned chairs across from one another with a small coffee table in between them. Finally a small kitchen in the back with a fermented seafood smell.

"I made you some dinner. I know you can't really eat after that type of news." Gohin's consideration brought a smile to Legoshi's face. Gohin served them both a bowl of Kimchi Bibimbap. They then sat in the two chairs.

"This devouring, it was at your school right?" Gohin asked. Legoshi nodded silently, Gohin studied Legoshi's neutral expression.

"He was a friend of yours?"

"How did you know?"

"Even if devourings disgust you, you're still willing to talk about details in order to learn more. Since the devouring happened at your school this time it's not difficult to put two and two together." Gohin spoke in between bites. Legoshi thought back to his late friend, Gohin noticed this and broke from eating.

"I'm sorry for your loss Legoshi." Gohin's voice carried an intense sincerity about it. Legoshi managed a smile through his memories of Tem.

"Thank you."

"Now, finish your food so we can go and train. Bring your school bag too." Gohin commanded, to which Legoshi followed. The two finished and cleaned their dishes before exiting the apartment. They rode the elevator down to the fifth floor. Upon entering the floor, they were surrounded by open four squares that let in the nighttime air.

"We'll train here." Gohin declared, rolling out his shoulders. "Today's training is evasion. You will not be doing anything else. Line up." Legoshi nodded silently. He took a left side forward stance and Gohin bent his knees slightly, his fists tight to his face.

"Three. Two. One. Go." Gohin counted down to his first punch. Legoshi evaded cleanly, then Gohin swung more. Legoshi barely evaded each, his movements were sluggish. Gohin mixed up his approach by going in for a hug. However, Legoshi jumped away before he could be caught.

"I can tell you've been training. Still, you can't allow emotion to get in the way of your fighting ability. I understand it's difficult for you right now. That's exactly why you need to focus, to eliminate hesitation in battle when struggling to focus. Your body needs to memorize the sensation." Gohin explained. "I'm not asking you to get rid of your grief. I'm asking you to focus on evasion even though you are grieving."Legoshi let those words rest onto his shoulders, he hopped up and down lightly.

"Okay, I'm ready." Legoshi declared. Gohin approached his student and his assault began. Legoshi evaded with perfect timing, his focus sharper than before. His body moved around away from any sense of danger. He became aware of everything around him. The cool air, the strikes and the feeling of the world around his fur. Everything he could perceive and feel became readable. Gohin stopped swinging all of a sudden and Legoshi stopped as well.

"Good, very good in fact. I see you've been training on your own." Gohin smiled softly.

"Can't afford to only train when I'm here." Legoshi said with a smile.

"You know what's the hardest thing about being a therapist?" Legoshi shrugged. "Keeping my patients on the correct track to recovery. To ignore their instincts, suppress them or tame them. I think you;re my first patient to ever do both."

"Could you stop calling me a patient? I thought we moved past that already." Gohin gave the wolf a toothy grin.

"Yeah we are. I'm just marveling at my handiwork. I'm proud of your progress too, it's only been two months since you started coming in. You've had the fastest turnaround." Gohin's body emanated a distinct joy only an old man could have. Legoshi felt comforted by its pleasant feeling.

"You're like an old man proud of his son."

"Shut up!" Gohin yelled, embarrassed. Legoshi giggled. Gohin sighed with happiness at the sight but his annoyance wasn't gone yet.

"If you've got time to run your mouth, you've got time to dodge. I'm going to show you something new so prepare yourself!" Gohin barked. Legoshi recollected himself and paid attention.

"I want you to brace yourself. Either block or evade this punch, got it?" Legoshi nodded. He put up his guard and braced himself. Gohin smirked, he tightened the muscles in his body and took a step closer to Legoshi. The wolf's eyes went wide as he saw a Silverback gorilla, the beast raised its right arm and then came down as fast as a Python's head striking. Legoshi tried to move his arms but they were too slow. He couldn't even close his eyes before the fist made contact. Gohin stopped his swing and flicked Legoshi's snout.

"What was that?!" Legoshi held his nose as he asked.

"That is a new technique." Gohin laughed. "I'll teach it to you when you can evade a strike from it."

"Does the technique have a name?" Legoshi asked.

"Yes, I'm not gonna tell you what it is."

"Do you not have one for it?" Legoshi asked. Gohin's left arm moved like a serpent, flicking Legoshi again.

"Hey! That's gotta be a gross misuse of that ability, not fair!"

"You ask too many questions, someone's gotta teach you how to be polite and listen to your elders!" Gohin fired back.

"Anyway, before I let you go. I want you to stay away from investigating the case at your school. Let the case develop a little more."

"Okay, if you say so." Legoshi agreed obediently.

"You want to know why don't you?"

"Yes." Legoshi agreed eagerly, and Gohin sighed.

"There have been a few devourings around the black market. Naturally, these things don't make it to the public eye. Innocent herbivores disappearing when lured into or around the black market. There haven't been any remains recovered. Do you know why I'm telling you this?"

"The killer may have been the same one in the black market." Legoshi responded.

"Correct, meaning they are dangerous. You're not ready to face down a threat like that yet, so keep your nose out of garbage." Gohin advised sternly. "Have you been studying up on the books I gave you?"

"Yes, it's pretty interesting to see how everyone works mentally and emotionally."

"Good, good. Have you reconsidered becoming a psychiatrist then?" Gohin's face oozed optimism.

"I think I'll wait for more career paths to open for me." Legoshi spoke confidently.

"Great, now I need to keep looking for an apprentice to take over this place for me after I'm gone." Gohin sighed.

"I'm sure you'll find someone. I'm gonna get going now." Legoshi said.

"Right. Remember don't take first Arasaka subway entrance.-"

"It's always packed. I remember." Legoshi finished the panda's warning without missing a step.

Gohin watched on silently as he saw Legoshi run off into the night. His cigarette burning on the edge of his lips. The sweet strawberry flavor gave him pause in the open, empty room. Its cheap flavor felt satisfying.

Legoshi reached his dorm at around nine o'clock. He entered it and waved to his roommates. Silently, he entered the shower, brushed his teeth and got into his nightwear. All of it without a peep, he fed his herculean beetle, Kabu. Then his gaze turned to the city outside and the lights far off into the distance. Jack sat across from him in his own nightwear.

"We're sorry about your friend Legoshi." Jack apologized to his friend and his other roommates looked at him with sympathy.

"You guys don't have to apologize if you didn't do anything wrong." Legoshi still stared out of the window. Everyone still expressed their sympathy, it wrapped the wolf in a layer of undeniable comfort. He felt its soft embrace and tears began to stream once more. His friends huddled around him and hugged their friend who did his best to cry quietly.

"Thank you guys." Legoshi choked out those words.

"It's what we're here for." Jack reassured his friend with a caring smile. Legoshi managed to smile through his tears. Miguno, Voss, Durham, Collot and Jack. The few animals who made this lonely wolf comfortable.
