It was a bright sunny day in the Digital World. Months have passed since the defeat of MaloMyotismon and the Digital World is finally at peace.
Out in an open field were the Digidestined setting up for a picnic. Joe, Izzy, and Ken were setting up the picnic blankets. Sora, Mimi, Yolie, and Cody were preparing the food. Matt, TK, and Kari were getting everyone's drinks ready. Tai and Davis were playing with the Digimon which annoyed a few.
"You know, this would go a lot faster if you guys helped," Yolie commented through gritted teeth. She didn't appreciate Davis dropping his work onto her. She was also a little jealous because she wanted to play with Hawkmon.
"Yeah, come on. The sooner we finish with this the sooner you can get back to hanging around," Sora added. Tai playfully rolled his eyes and tapped Davis' arm.
"They're right, we should help out," Tai told him. Davis wanted to argue but his tongue knowing that he would get nowhere if he did. He also would've gotten an earful from Yolie if didn't help out a little.
With the added help of Tai and Davis, they finished setting everything up in no time. With everything ready, they quickly dug into their meal.
"You know no one is gonna steal your food right," TK joked when he saw how fast everyone was eating.
"We don't always get to eat this food you know!" Gomamon said before slamming his face back into his food raising a few laughs in the group.
"Plus, Mimi's food is so delicious that you feel the need to eat it like someone is gonna take it," Yolie said before choking on her food. Ken gave her a drink which she graciously took to wash down the food in her throat.
"Oh you're too kind," Mimi said with a bright smile. After MaloMyotismon was defeated, Mimi decided to take some culinary classes. She only took the classes because she thought they were interesting. Come, to everyone's surprise, Mimi was a pretty good chef.
Everyone started to shower Mimi in praise which TK tuned out. He lay back on the blanket and watched the clouds fly by. He wasn't that hungry and he didn't mind giving the others his food. He was just happy to spend the day with his friends and not have to worry about anything.
*SNAP*
TK sat up when he heard the snap, thinking that it came from one of his friends, but when he looked around he saw them chatting amongst themselves without paying him any mind. He then looked around to see if the noise came from a random Digimon that came across their picnic, but he couldn't find any.
"You ok, TK?" Patamon asked worriedly. TK could see how worried he was making his partner so he gave him a big smile to quash his fears.
"Don't worry, I thought I heard something…" His vision went blurry as his friends' words seemed to compress together. He put his head into his hands when the world around him started to spin, making him nauseous.
"Guys…" TK said to gain everyone's attention. "I don't feel so good."
TK then suddenly collapsed and everyone quickly rushed to their fallen friend. Matt quickly cradled TK in his arms and he saw his brother's eyes dilating. He was also shaking profusely and muttering incoherent nonsense. Then he started to disappear from reality as his body blew away like dust in the wind.
Everyone started to panic after they saw their friend get turned into dust. Davis and Yolie ran around like chickens with their heads cut off while Cody and Ken tried to calm them down. The older kids, on the other hand, were terrified. Not only because they saw their friend be erased from existence but because it wasn't the first time it happened.
"You don't think he's back, do you?" Joe said out loud. He didn't need to say the person's name because they knew who he was talking about.
"No, that's not possible. We destroyed him with the power of our crests," Izzy answered, but he didn't know if he could fully believe the words he said. He knew Digimon couldn't die, only be reborn, but they reset the Digital World after they beat him so maybe he was the exception to the rule.
They heard a loud scream and saw each of the younger kids get erased from reality, just like TK.
"What is going on!?" Mimi screamed.
"Uh, Tai!" Kari spoke up. Everyone turned to her just in time to see her being erased.
Soon, one by one, they were all erased until all that was left were Tai and Matt. The two boys stood back to back, though they knew that it would be fruitless in the end. Soon, they were both gone from the world.
Tai and Matt slowly regained consciousness and looked around. They were in some kind of movie theater.
"What's up," a voice said. The two boys shot up and saw their friends sitting in the theater seats. They ran over and embraced their siblings.
"Thank goodness you're alright! I was so worried!" Matt said. TK just patted his brother on the back without saying much.
"I'm fine, but I won't be if you don't loosen your grip!" TK told his brother and Matt quickly ended the embrace. Tai did too and looked around with a confused stare.
"So what are you guys doing?" He asked. Sora was going to explain until a disembodied voice echoed throughout the room.
"Allow me to explain. I have summoned you here to react to the possible future of one of your friends. Consider this a way for you to prevent this possible outcome."
"Okay… but why are you doing this?" Tai asked.
"And what would happen if we stop this 'future' from happening?" Izzy added.
"Because it'll help you guys out and if you can prevent what I'm about to show you then consider it an alternate timeline or another universe."
"What about our Digimon? If this could become a possible future then wouldn't it be a good idea for them to be here?" Sora raised a very good question. Tai and Matt soon realized that none of the Digimon are there with them.
"I might bring them in if people want them here, but this is something that you'll need to do without them. Don't worry, after you see this I'll send you guys back to the time before I summoned you here. They wouldn't even notice you guys were missing."
"Uh, I don't know. I mean, this is just too much to take in," Tai rubbed the back of his head. Just a few minutes they were all in the Digital World enjoying a picnic and now they were all in a theater being told they were going to see a possible future of one of their friends. If he wasn't so used to traveling to the Digital World this whole thing would be overwhelming.
"Come on Tai. This sounds important and when are we going to get the chance to see the future?" Sora argued.
"Yeah! Aren't you the least bit curious? I wanna know what I look like in the future!" Mimi added.
"I want to see how far technology has advanced," Izzy added with his own curiosity.
"And I want to know if me and Kari get together," Davis said proudly.
"In your dreams, Davis," Yolie shot him down. Davis playfully pouted which made his friends laugh.
Tai gave Matt a quizzical look and the blond shrugged his shoulders.
"Could be fun," Matt said and Tai sighed.
"Alright, we'll do it," Tai gave in. Some of the Digidestined cheered as the two boys took a seat next to their respective siblings.
"Glad to hear it. Now, before we begin I would like to say a few things. Food and bathrooms are in the back. The video will stop when you guys talk, so if I think you're intentionally stopping the video you will be removed from the theater."
Everyone looked at Davis when they heard that rule.
"Oh, I get it. It's because you guys think I'm loud and annoying. Bet I won't be the first one to be removed," Davis pouted while folding his arms. Ken gave his friend a supportive pat on the back.
"Alright, let's begin."
