Based on the words of 'the fields of Athenry' sporting song from Ireland. Roger reflects on what it is to be dead.

DISCLAIMER: aaaahhhh! Nearly forgot this Ahhhh! i don't own Roger or 'The fields of Athenry'. Roger is a fictional character from His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman and 'The Fields Of Athenry' is an old Irish sporting song. ta.

'By a lonely prison wall, I heard a young girl calling.'

My name is roger, and I'm nothing since I left the girl who was my friend.

'Michael they are taking you away.'

I've lived down here, in the abyss that is nothing, for many long years, with no sign of my friends or family.

'For you stole Travelians corn.'

Nobody saw my reasoning.

'So the young might see the morn.'

I was only trying to help the less fortunate.

'Now a prison ship is taking you away.'

It feels that I am bobbing on a ship with no way out…

Low, lie the fields of Athenry,

Where once we watched the small free birds fly

Our love was on the wing

We had dreams and songs to sing

Its so lonely round the fields of Athenry.

By a lonely prison wall, I heard a young man calling

I call, but they don't hear

Nothing matters Mary when you're free

I'm not bothered so long as Lyra is safe.

Against the famine and the crown, I rebelled they ran be down.

There's no peace for those who strive for good.

Now you must raise our child with dignity

There's no dignity here, we're all dirty and the same.

Low, lie the fields of Athenry,

Where once we watched the small free birds fly

Our love was on the wing

We had dreams and songs to sing

It's so lonely round the fields of Athenry.

By a lonely prison wall, she watched the last star falling

Sometimes it feels that there is no way out

And the prison ship sailed out against the bay

I can't stop what's happening, although I wish with all my heart I could

For she'll live and hope and pray, for her love in botany bay.

There's no end for me, I will keep on wishing for Lyra's company and keep holding on.

Its so lonely round the fields of Athenry.

The only thing I've learned from death is that we're all alone.

Okay people, please be nice…this only my first one and I know its crap. I'm just hoping for reviews like all the great one's I've read from other people. Hint hint hint! Okay, do your worst. I appreciate any feedback, good or bad. S xxx
