Cindy Vortex never understood other people.

She never understood anyone. So, as she sat crying on somebody's bedside in the hospital, she knew, very well, she had to do better, if not for herself, for them.

Lying in a hospital bed, virtually lifeless, was a boy by the name of Jimmy Isaac Neutron. The smartest boy in the world.

Jimmy didn't move.

Cindy feared that she had lost him.

Why did Nick have to drive him to create that stupid thing?!

Some people just didn't know when to quit, did they?

Cindy looked up at Jimmy, his eyes closed, an oxygen tube on his nose, with the heart monitor beeping in the background.

Cindy held his lifeless hand, hating how cold it was, hating how it didn't wrap around hers and squeeze back.

"I'm here, Jimmy... I'm right here... Please wake up..." Cindy pleaded.

But he didn't...

It was a few days later now, Cindy still at Jimmy's bedside.

Cindy was busy reading to Jimmy, hoping that the book would get some response out of him, her hand still holding his, still lifeless as ever.

But Cindy still had hope, Jimmy could get through anything, so she had plenty of faith that he'd get through this.

Cindy laughed in her head at that thought, she never would've considered that in a million years. Her old self would've never been sitting here Reading to him, her old self wouldn't even care. But she wasn't her old self anymore. That Cindy Vortex was long gone now.

The 'new' Cindy Vortex had lost all of her friends, apart from Libby of course. Cindy had lost all of her popularity, now she was bullied, people tripping her up, laughing in her face, just like she did to him.

Cindy finally understood...

She wondered if Jimmy wanted his invention to deliberately go wrong, go wrong and injure him so that he doesn't have to deal with it anymore.

Cindy hoped not, but was a little more than certain that what she feared was true. Jimmy probably did deliberately make it go wrong because he couldn't do it anymore.

She saw tears streaming down his face, and gently wiped them away.

'He must be so scared' Cindy thought.

Cindy put down the book she was reading to him, and held both of his hands, one of them with a cannula inside, which was giving him fluids and other medicine. His poor hands were cold, Cindy being gentle not to injure him any further.

Cindy talked to Jimmy, telling him about how his best friend Carl visited, and how he left himsome get well soon gifts. Which Cindy had left unopened in a neat pile for Jimmy to open them when he wants to.

"He misses you, Jimmy..." Cindy said softly. "Sheen does too..."

A couple days later.

Jimmy's eyes slowly open as he groggily looks around, he was so scared. Cindy lept to his side, calm and gentle as Jimmy was really disorientated. "Hey Jimmy... Welcome back, "Cindy said softly. "Your parents are outside, I'll go and call them in for you." She said, mindful to keep her voice low. But as she went to leave, Jimmy grabbed her hand, his body shaking.

The 10-year-old boy was crying, absolutely petrified.

"What's going on? Where am I? Who are you?" Jimmy asked, not seeming to remember anything.

This was the part Cindy wished he was joking, if she were her old self, she would be laughing and teasing him about it. But, Jimmy was genuinely freaking out, had absolutely no idea who he was or where he was, or who this girl that had sat with him for the past two weeks was either.

But keeping calm, Cindy squeezed his hands again to comfort him.

"Shhh, Jimmy it's okay... you're in the hospital right now, you had an accident, and I'm Cindy." She told him gently, trying to console him as much as she could.

"Would you like to see your parents? "She asked gently, like speaking to a small child. Jimmy wasn't sure what was going on, but he nodded anyway. "I'm gonna go get them, I'll be right back. "Cindy said, quickly going off to get his parents.

A few minutes later, Hugh and Judy Neutron came in, Jimmy didn't recognise them at all. Judy came over to her boy, calm and gentle. "Hi Jimmy sweetie, it's your Mom and Dad..." she said in a soft voice, Jimmy tried to remember, but he couldn't. Instead, he started to cry, unsure who these strangers were claiming to be 'Mom and Dad'

Cindy quickly stepped in before things could escalate, grabbing the boy's hands to calm him down again.

"These are your parents, Jimmy, they were so worried about you... "Cindy says gently.

But Jimmy didn't know who these people were, he just looked at them as though he'd never seen them before.

"I'm sorry... I don't remember who you are... "Jimmy says in a broken voice, wishing his stupid brain would work.

Jimmy's parents looked at him on the verge of tears. Their son didn't remember them...

Judy needed a few minutes outside, her husband soon followed.

Jimmy watched his 'parents' leave, beginning to cry again form the guilt.

"Did I do bad or something? "Jimmy asked, his voice cracking a sob.

Cindy reached up and caressed his cheek, wiping away the tears. "No Jimmy..." Cindy reassured gently. "You did absolutely nothing wrong, this isn't your fault... I think you lost your memory." She said softly.

"Huh? What does that mean?" Jimmy asked, his eyebrows raised.

"That's why you don't remember anything, you have forgotten. " Cindy clarified.

Jimmy truly wasn't joking then, was he?

Cindy started to cry now too. The old genius Jimmy Neutron was gone...

Jimmy was confused, why was the girl named Cindy crying?

"Are you okay? I didn't mean to make you upset! "Jimmy said quickly, but Cindy caressed his hands.

"I'm not upset at you, Jimmy... Some nasty people made you forget who you were and I'm upset at them, that's all.." Cindy replied.

Jimmy didn't understand who the nasty people were, but he understood they must be bad.

"Were they mean to you? "Jimmy asked.

Cindy nodded. "They were mean to you too." She said.

"Are you going to be mean to me too? "Jimmy asked fearfully.

'Not anymore' she thought to herself.

Cindy hated how afraid the 10-year-old boy was. Oh she was gonna make Nick pay for what he did to Jimmy. This seemed permanent, which means, Jimmy was no longer going to be himself, he wasn't going to be a genius anymore. Nick had permanently damaged him.

"No Jimmy, I will never be mean to you... "Cindy promised, wishing he wasn't in pain that she could give him a hug.

Jimmy smiled, and it wasn't supposed to make Cindy's heart break, but it did. The old Jimmy Neutron was gone...
