A Special Gift

By : Tomi Yamamoto

I never thought a simple birthday dinner could be so exciting, but then again I was with him. He was the best boy friend a girl could have. Leaning over I gave him a small peck on the cheek, creating a tint of pink on his cheeks. I smiled at him as we headed for the couch. He said we were going to watch some kind of movie.

I know he's not always as romantic as he was now. Sure he had an outer shell that was harder and more tense than how he actually feels inside. Guys and their ego. But no matter what I still see him as the same guy I had fallen for 3 years ago.

He made me feel special in his own way. Simple yet romantic. I loved him that way. I would never want him to change. All through my years of experience he was the only man that made me feel this way. He always had a way making me shiver and make my heart leap in my chest.

The movie wasn't half bad. I just enjoyed the fact that he had me in his arms, and held me like I was some kind of fragile glass doll. He looked so serious after that, yet in a really cute way. I smiled back at him and thanked him. Not just for the birthday dinner, but pretty much for everything. We have been together for two and half years now. There was so much that he had done for me I just don't know how I'm going to repay him, but I guess to him its just the way that I love him and keep him company.

Our lips met in a passionate kiss that seemed to last forever. It felt as if I was floating in the clouds. When he, finally managed to push away, I smiled at him and he smiled back. He turned around to retrieve something from behind the couch.

"Happy birthday." He spoke in the softest voice he could manage, which I have to admit was cute. He handed me a small dark blue box, decorated by a small red ribbon. He told me to open it. My eyes were filled with tears when I saw it. He took it from me and knelt down in front of me. This was the last thing I expected him to ask. He had asked me to marry him.

I jumped off the couch and into his arms. Of course I said yes. The tears just kept coming, I was so speechless. He smiled at me and picked me up. We sat back down on the couch and he slid on the ring. It was so beautiful but yet again it was so simple. It was a silver band with a heart shaped diamond surrounded by two smaller diamonds on each side.

All I could manage to say was, "Thank you. I love you so much". He respond by pulling me into a hug and whispering in my ear, "I love you too."

Once again our lips met in an even longer kiss. I was so happy I just kept crying. It was the best birthday a girl can ask for. I guess you can say that the best gifts you can get also con in a box.
